Unpopular opinion: I prefer the voice of Ilkka Villi, the actor for Alan Wake, over the voice actor Matthew Porretta.

Villi's voice is excellent as Zane the Filmmaker.
I prefer him playing Zane because he is a great voice actor but I find Alan’s voice already suits him.
These days Ilkka Villi can minimise his accent to the point that the two actually sound quite similar.
That being said, I would NEVER replace Matthew Porretta. He’s so perfect as Alan Wake.
It’s a combination of the two that makes the character as iconic as he is.
And his family's from Georgia. Oops, wrong movie.
Couldn’t disagree more. I’m glad Ilkka got to voice Zane and i hope Remedy will let him do more stuff like it in the future, but the combined performance of Ilkka and Matthew is what makes Alan so special.
Now that Illka has had decades to minimize his accent a bit, they actually sound pretty similar. In an interview from last year with low audio quality, I remember hearing him sound pretty much how I expected him to sound, even though it obviously wasn't Matthew speaking.
I get the faint feeling that Ilkka was somewhat playing up his accent for Zane, but it could also be down to the difference in brain power necessary for acting vs. talking
Not only is this an odd take but the dubbing is intentional, especially in aw2 - for more reasons than just having a more American sounding voice over.
What are the other reasons?
It’s hilarious that that took one man’s face and said no no. Your voice sucks. 😆😆
The magic of Alan as a character is their dual performance coming together to make something unique

It is really crazy how well they mix together.
