Under Neoliberalism unemployment is used to control inflation; prior to its imposition on the planet by Thatcher and Reagan "full employment" was absolutely a goal of government.

The consequences of this: Structural increases in insecurity for workers, rising inequality in many countries, weakening of organized labour, and persistence of higher natural/structural unemployment in some places. Economic growth patterns also changed toward finance-led growth in many economies and the collapse of domestic manufacturing in favour of service based economies

I've had the misfortune to witness this catastrophe unfold as an adult (mostly) 🙄

If everyone had a job then there would be no scarcity and people could demand higher wages or walk out of jobs they don't like without fear of not finding another job easily.  

People only take terrible, low paid jobs because they have to keep themselves and their families off the streets. How would large businesses make as much profit as they do?

Yeah it’s actually fucked. We also treat families where a partner or parent has lost their job, and some arbitrary number for earnings is chosen as “being above the threshold” and we just don’t support those people. No matter if they have kids, a mortgage, medical bills and needs, etc.

We’re just ok with having them live in poverty or lose their homes because we don’t want to give job seeker more universally.

If you live in a capital - earning 115k with a mortgage is not enough to support two adults let alone if they have kids or pets.

But we will protect the 3.5 million dollar super accounts of the fucking boomers who own 4 properties and get to live like royalty.

Makes my blood boil

Harrassing others makes people feel better about their shitty jobs

So we don't band together and 🎶Rise up/ rise up.
