Is there a way to decrease brightness below the offered setting?

Pre-cosmic de I had an app called Brightness controller that allowed me to really decrease brightness (to even make the screen completely black), which was awesome.

Now changing the brightness slide in the app doesn't work, understandably given Wayland's design and everything.

So I'm wondering if there is there a way to decrease brightness below the offered setting?

I think on laptop you can do it by sending specific vslue to backlight device through device filesystem. You can also do it automatically by adding udev rule e.g. on battery set backlight to z value, on ac set backlight to y value

So with buttons on my keyboard I only get increments of 10%.

The battery applet in the top corner however has a slider that gets me 1% increments.

I meant below the 0% offered by cosmic DE. I'm going to have to learn how to send values to the backlight device through the device filesystem like czrny1 said.
