PSA: Extracting missions items in platoons
THE BUG
Since the release of DMZ, there has been a bug where the game will only check a maximum of 3 backpacks (chosen at random AFAICS) from your squad per exfil chopper/elevator.
If you’re in a squad of 3 or less, this will never affect you. But if there are 4 or more people in your squad, then at least one of the backpacks won’t get checked at exfil.
This can affect: missions items required for extraction, the weapons case, missions that require your backpack to be full, missions that require you to extract a weapon, etc.
WORKAROUND
To overcome this bug, your squad will need to use multiple exfil choppers/elevators to extract. As long as there are no more than 3 people from your squad per exfil chopper/elevator, everyone’s backpack will get checked. Just make sure that party leaders don’t pull entire squads out until everyone has fully extracted.
FAQ
Does it matter who joins which squad in terms of triggering the bug? No. Which squad joined who, which people you loaded into the game with, who pleaded vs who was invited, etc., don’t affect the bug. It’s simply 3 backpacks chosen at random to be checked, from the current people in your squad. So if 4 people from the squad extract on the same chopper/elevator, one backpack won’t get checked. If 5 people from the squad extract on the same chopper/elevator, then two backpacks won’t get checked, etc.
I extracted in a squad of 4 or more on the same chopper/elevator, and the stuff I needed to extract still correctly counted for me. Why? Three backpacks (chosen at random AFAICS) per chopper/elevator will still get checked each time. The larger your platoon, the higher the chances that a particular backpack will get skipped though.
Do enemy operators on a exfil chopper/elevator matter? In previous (much older) testing they didn’t, but at least one person has reported that it was an issue for them recently. Further testing is required.
Do personal exfils, hostage rescues, or the heavy chopper exfil change this? No. They all work exactly the same way for the purposes of this bug.
How can the squad be split up at exfil to still have everything definitely work? Anyone from your squad who needs their backpack contents to count must go out on an exfil with 3 people from to squad (or less) on it. So the safest way, especially now that the wallet exists and nearly everyone will want to have their backpack checked at every extraction, is just to do no more than 3 per chopper/elevator. That way every backpack will always get checked.
But technically if you have 4 or more people from your squad who don’t need to have their backpack counted for anything, then those people can all go out together, since it doesn’t matter if some of their backpacks don’t get checked. So if you were in a squad of 6 extracting a weapons case, and nobody else cared about having their backpacks checked, you could put the person carrying the weapons case out first on their own chopper/elevator, and the other 5 people from your squad could go out on a second chopper/elevator together, and the weapons case will still count for everyone.

This bug has been in the game since day 1, so either they don’t know about it, or they can’t figure out how to fix it.

No chance this has been since day one. I've extracted weapon cases with more than 3 no issues. Only this season have I seen the issue of no progress with larger than 3. Lost out on 2 weapon cases and insured slot progression because of shit like this.

It has been like this since day 1 unfortunately.

Can't be, I've done all of Ashika Island, Al Mazrah, and Koschei complex weapon cases lots of them in squads bigger than 3 and everyone has gotten weapon case progress. This is the first time I've seen this bug come up and it has shown on both of the times I extracted the weapon case. This is not a day one bug. Nobody has complained about weapon cases not progressing since day 1

The second question in the FAQ section explains it.

I've read your faq, been playing since day 1 and up to this point, this is the first I'm hearing of this issue, ie I'm questioning how you know this bug has been around since day 1 of DMZ

I‘ve been playing in large squads with my friends since day 1, and when some of the missions to extract things would be really unreliable when we were in large squads, but reliable when we were in regular size squads, we started testing to see what the problem might be.
The inconsistent results really puzzled us at first. Then we noticed that 3 of the people would have it work for them, and it was always 3 people. At first we thought it was down to how the squad assimilation happened, so we tried various invites, requests, pleas, etc., but there didn’t seem to be any pattern.
When we tested going out on separate choppers in groups of 3, suddenly the item extractions always worked again. We noticed that it didn’t matter how the two groups were split up, just that it was a maximum of 3 per chopper. So we started using that technique whenever we were in a squad of more than 3 with mission items to extract, and it worked 100% of the time.
As to how the 3 backpacks that get checked are chosen by the game, we could never find any kind of pattern in our testing, so we assume it’s simply random.
As to why it’s suddenly a big issue: once they introduced the ability for fully downed squads to still plead (including solos), we noticed a big uptick in the number of larger squads rolling around. And now with the season 4 update, suddenly nearly every single person in the game is trying to extract things for missions in every single match (thanks to the mission reset and new upgrade requirements), so it’s a problem that more and more people are running into.

Makes me wonder if they truly intended on assimilation. I can’t remember reading about 6 man’s being a possibility… kind of just stumbled across it in game, then it snowballing into what it is (or was) today.
Or… I could’ve missed the mention of assimilation entirely
