Alberta fisher new to Ontario looking for some tips

I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some tips on fishing in Ontario, I've gone out a few times but it's a bit different then fly fishing crystal clear lakes in Alberta. I don't normally have a car, so I'm really limited to Lake Ontario. I will be going to Niagra next week and Prince Edward County/Ottawa in September.

I live right by Ontario Place, went out there twice but didn't get any action. I've got an inflatable kayak I can take out, and I have a portable fish finder getting here on Friday. Would love tips on shore or boat fishing. I've just fished almost exclusively for trout and some pike, with the odd spatering of other fish but I would be interested in new species too.

Also does anyone think fly fishing would be reasonable on Lake Ontario? I definitely prefer it to regular spincasting.

This time of year pike fishing with a fly rod is possible but difficult, lake trout however is a complete no go, all the fish in the Great Lakes, Shield lakes, and basically anywhere else are hanging out as deep as possible.

You won't find much trout fishing from shore or with fly rod at this time. If you have down riggers you can hook'em while trolling. Pike you might be able to get into but the best times to get them are usually just after ice out and right after opener. Unless you're fishing for bass or pan fish you won't find much action in the GTA from or close to shore.

Summer is usually my "downtime" for fishing, usually only fish once a week or once every couple of weeks. Fall is by far my favourite season for migratory trout and walleye, both you can catch in rivers / close to shore. I also live near Ontario place if you ever want a fishing buddy let me know, I've been fishing the Great Lakes for over 20 years, have a vehicle and fish lots of different bodies of water during the fall, winter and spring seasons.

I have never fished at Ontario place but I hear it is an amazing spot for bass and pike. Also, Toronto Islands is supposed to be an excellent spot for bass.

There are a couple YouTube videos of people catching decent sized pike at different spots along the lake in downtown Toronto.

When in your kayak, have you tried using a jig and bouncing it off the bottom?

Grenadier Pond in high park has a healthy pan fish population. Try using little spoons and spinners, or even better a worm on a slip float. There are also bass in that pond so you might get lucky and have some fun with that.

I hope some of this helps. I personally prefer to not fish around Toronto, but access and availability to travel to fish can really limit your opportunities. Good luck!
