He told me is he shooting for less then 30 bucks for the ElCheapo. it will be sold as a lose PCB with and you will have supply your own cartridge shell. The Micro SD card will be entirely inside the cart. You can cut a slot if you want. but it's not need.

dajigo

Sounds awesome.

That thing with the slot being inside the cart is good thing. I own the Everdrive but the default cartridge body is crappy and doesn't have nearly as much grip as a proper cartridge, so I'd use some rubbish game as a donor case.

He is only a few weeks away from shipping, and it is looking really good.

Toastalicious_

And to think, this is just the ElCheapo version!

less than 30 for the cheapone, and he is shooting for ~60 for the higher end one.

releasethedogs

what the difference?
Is there a website?

Agent4834 [OP]

He has a site http://bennvenn.myshopify.com/ , but most of the update stuff is on his Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/BennVennElectronics/

The ElCheapo is 1MB Rom, and uses the the Gameboys CPU to handle the data transfer (the DMG is 1Mhz). and Volatile RAM for saves, with an on-board battery .

The other cart, will have 8 MB rom, and an on-board CPU to take over for the data transfer. so transfer times on larger roms will be handled in factions of the time. And Non- Volatile save RAM so no need for a battery.

This has me pretty excited. Does it only work with B&W games or will it work with GB color games also?

Agent4834 [OP]

it should work with both. but a lot of the GB color games are bigger than 1MB

releasethedogs

ohhhh I knew there was a catch :-/

Agent4834 [OP]

its not really a catch. the ElCheapo is more for the chiptune guys / gals. If you wanna have every game ever, then wait for the bigger one. it will still be cheaper and faster then the Everdrive.

Price and save file flexability. The high end cart will support folders/subdirectories, faster transfer times than the ED and larger ROM and RAM capacity. Even the budget version has 4 times the save ram than the ED which is necessary for LSDJ.

punamenon2

Will it support multiple save files on LSDJ?

Agent4834 [OP]

From Benn: "For the Chipmusic guys, this cart is perfect! Can store hundreds of ROM's, and even more Save files. Sav's aren't attached to any one ROM file so you are free to save your work regularly, add kits, switch between save files all without the need of a PC."

punamenon2

I'll take six.
