Looking for my father's parents. Could use some help if there is anyone out there that has done this.

Long story short, my mother gives away NO information. She is one of those type of people that believe the "past is the past" type of stuff. We had a very broken home growing up. I have recently met some new relatives on line, but they seem as clueless about our history as I am. When I tried to ask, they either stated they didn't know or was not interested. I know my father's name, my grandmother and grandfather's name, along with my father's birthday and such. I don't have the money for ancestry.com and mundia.com is giving me a lot of errors when I try to search. This is a Texas based family from what I can tell, who then moved to Arizona. I do have a bit of my father's information to start with. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction. I really really want to know where my father's family came from. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I'd be glad to help if you want to PM me. I've been doing research for 5 years or so. Give Family Search a try, too.

I second Family Search. It's free, and they have stuff Ancestry doesn't have.

Recent records aren't always available, for privacy reasons. You're more likely to find records about your grandparents than your dad himself.

I have an Ancestry subscription. I'm a beginner genealogist but if you PM me the details you know I can have a look for you.

So it looks like a few trees on Ancestry match up and have been well researched.

Here is one for example.

It has some lines that go back to your great-grandparent and others that go to your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents in Germany.

To answer your question about where your fathers family came from, here are the locations that are listed in that tree:

Grandparents

  • Texas

Great-Grandparents

  • Arkansas
  • Texas
  • Virginia
  • Kansas

Great-Great-Grandparents

  • Tennessee
  • North Carolina
  • Virginia
  • Germany (possibly)

  • Alabama
  • Germany
  • Virginia

  • Pennsylvania

In short, there is a wealth of information on Ancestry for that side of your family. I'm happy to try and answer a few more specific questions if you have them.

Omg, this is amazing!! I can't believe you found all this information. I was looking for names, birth dates and location. This looks exactly like what you found! I tried mundia.com but someone had Eli's father listed as Tom Willson Gates and that is where the trail ended. Not to mention it will not show me the information. I keep getting errors so I can't view any of it.

So I need to sign up to view more information, like children and such? Or add to it?

I am so excited I barely know where to begin or what to ask. I guess how to I access more information? maybe children or such. See documentation seeing that they lived in those places?

You do not know how grateful I am!!

Many Library's computers have free Ancestry.com accounts. Ask the Librarian for the password. Also check out Familysearch.org.
