Pixel 5 updated to Android 12 - how to customize?

I never have any notifications, but I use the buttons on the pull down menu a lot, often while needing to watch the app I'm using. The background of the no-notifications area used to be translucent. Now it's just blocking everything, totally in the way and opaque. Is there an option or 3rd party app to make it translucent again?

Also, the clock on the lock screen is beyond terrible. I literally get confused trying to read it vertically and fail to understand the time without staring at it and thinking for a bit. Is there any way to change that back to a normal clock?

No root or such things.. looking for a hidden menu or options I've missed, or trusted free 3rd party app that can fix this hot mess without ads

Unfortunately not. That's how Android 12 is.

If you heavily use the quick toggles, you'll also notice that they got downgraded from 6 direct access toggles to just 4.

Feedback to Google repeatedly, it's the only way to make them understand how absurdly some design changes in Android 12 are.
