Same. I read it affected mostly Fire Tv users. About to buy another Apple TV on sale on Amazon for $120 down from $180 because I at least know that works.
After we finally got it to play, the behind the scenes audio made creepy weird noises. Like a deep growling slow mo sound almost like a dragon talking, but the music sounded normal. At first we thought it was some coded message but reloaded and it went normal.
My HBO app keeps crashing when I play the video. Oh well

If you are on a fire stick create a new profile and it will work.

Turn off subtitles.
I created a new profile and it worked but crashed when I enabled subtitles. Went back to Norma profile , turned off subtitles, and it worked!
