Overwatch - Audio Stutter

Hey Folks,

Has anyone else here had audio issues? I had audio issues earlier today and was able to resolve them, now I am curious to see if my issue lines up with anyone else. It is highly likely that this just effects me but I thought it might be worth trying to help a few others

Background

I've been playing the game for a month without issue but recently installed a new USB PCI-E card. (2 Port USB 3.0 PCI-E Card)

I started up overwatch today and my audio was super choppy. Naturally - i poked around via google to see if others were having a similar problem. I found a few threads of people mentioning it but no one had a fix.

I may be a special snowflake but I was able to fix my issue.

  • I use an external USB soundcard.
  • Audio through spotify was not choppy, it was just overwatch.
  • I had one item hooked up to my new PCI-E usb card. It was a Scarlet 2i2 microphone input device. (This IS NOT my external sound card)

Speculation

I found that unplugging everything from the new PCI-E card resolved my audio issue.

Even though my soundcard /was not/ hooked up through the new PCI-E card it was still causing a problem.

Anyways - it leads me to believe that people with USB/external sound cards might run into problems if there are any USB related issues. My guess is that this /could mean/ the following things could cause this issue

  • Bad USB Hub
  • Bad USB device hooked into your computer
  • Lack of USB drivers all together

Evidence

I was able to see a VERY clear trail of a bazillion error messages in my windows event viewer that start/stop whenever something is plugged into my new USB 3.0 PCI-E card.

I am curious - if anyone has had these issues could you....

  • Open Windows Event Viewer ( Google if you need instructions)
  • Expand "Custom Views"
  • Look up "Administrative Events"

Do you see any errors?
