Curious about the composition of this one scene from P3R

It's from November 4th, when we learn the true motives of Ikutsuki. When the camera cuts to Mitsuru and the others, there is this empty space to the left of Akihiko that we don't see to the right of Junpei, the rightmost person in the composition. From the first time I've seen the scene, I've always interpreted it as the spot Aragaki left behind after his passing but I couldn't find ANYTHING confirming or disproving this theory of mine online, nor have I seen any other off-center SEES compositions in the game after this.

Am I grasping at straws? Is this a deliberate choice by the art directors or is this merely a simple centering mistake? Curious to hear other perspectives, thank you!

i kind of assumed that was aigis’s spot, but since she’s with ikutsuki in this scene she’s not there

You're way grasping. The camera often makes room on the left for the character portraits.

considering the rest of the game i'm almost certain they just placed the camera there and didn't think about it

It's possible but Aigis isn't with the party here either.

Final Fantasy VII did this with a party member a few times, most notibly in the party switch menu. Where every time you change members you see the empty spot where they are supposed to be.

With FES it's felt every time you pick up a new Axe, because Makoto can use them too you keep getting better ones. And Shinjiros room obviously.

I like your head canon, OP. Let's say it's for Shinji and Aegis at the same time. Camera tends to have a mind of it's own, sometimes.
