Recording from blu ray player to vhs?

So I want to record the Tales from the Crypt episodes I have on a hard drive to blank vhs tapes, the hard drive is plugged into my bluray player which allows for media played from USB to displayed there. Is it just as simple as putting on and episode and hitting record on the vcr? Or is there more to it than that?

yes it's that simple on the vcr side. but you may have issues with aspect ratio, since vhs is 4:3 and the signal coming out of the player is 16:9. how are you connecting the blu ray player to the vcr?

I should've clarified, I'd be playing the video onto the TV with the vcr hooked up to the TV, I have no way to directly link the bluray to the vcr, that's my stumbling block.

well that is obviously a problem, haha. no, pressing record on the vcr will not work without the outputs of the blu ray connected to the inputs of the vcr.

you'll need an hdmi to rca converter. get a powered one, not just a cable (which will not work). you will likely still have aspect ratio issues, i expect it will squeeze the image horizontally to fit widescreen 16:9 into fullscreen 4:3, which may or may not be what you want.

I kinda figured, thank you for the information! Is there some editing I could do beforehand to make the footage 4:3 so it won't get squished?

if the converter simply squeezes horizontally, you could edit the footage to 4:3 (letterboxed or cropped, your choice) and then stretch it to 16:9. that way when it gets squeezed to 4:3 again by the converter it will look correct.

Okay fantastic, thank you for all of your help!
