All Tape Jobs Warning "File Not Found"
We are grabbing large dump and sweep SQL backups from different shares and writing them to tape. Every job has warnings about multiple (sometimes hundreds) of files not being found. The tape jobs are completing within the time between the SQL jobs that push this data so nothing should be changing. The identical backup to disk jobs during the week that do not show this warning.
Any ideas?

Yes, use VSS shadow copies in the Job options.

Select the Use Microsoft volume shadow copy (VSS) check box to enable backup of files with the help of Microsoft shadow volume copies. This option enables backup of files locked by application and provides file-level quiescence.

We are. Also these files should not be locked.

Don't focus on the locking. Your problem is that the SQL is creating a lot of files that might disappear because they are temporary. When the job runs it builds the list, when it writes, some items of the list are no longer there on the drive, because they were removed automatically.
Using VSS creates a consistent shadow copy snapshot and this one contains and all those files that were present on the drive when the copy was created. Even is the files are temporary and disappear, they will be present in the shadow copy and the backup is written using that.

We are using VSS.
