How to seek a new physician at a heart clinic and not fall behind. Or should I even try?
59M, Congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease. Also anxiety and arthritis.
Recent visit to University Coronary Heart Institute.
I know this is not a medical issue per se, but this is very important to me and I would like some guidance.
After being diagnosed with both congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease I sought and was approved for care at the heart institute at a local university hospital. Even though it took five months to get my first appointment, I was very excited. Both my PCP and myself used the time to make sure as much as my history (over 10 years of heart issues at multiple hospitals) as possible was sent to the clinic.
Upon arrival, I was greeted first by a resident physician who said she would be following my cardiologist for a few weeks and would it be okay if she talked to me. This seemed normal for a university clinic and the resident was quite fantastic. She went over the heart cath and stinting done by my previous cardiologist. She mentioned had a very good refraction rate, and she new where the stint was placed, and what type of stint it was. We discussed mobilty issues and how they effect my heart. She spoke about some things that the clinic might want to do. She even went ahead and ordered a heart monitor to be worn for seven days.
I was very impressed as we said goodbye and was feeling positive, and then my new cardiologist came through the door. She was immediately very standoffish. When I began asking some pretty simple questions (What do you think of the medicines I am on? When would I get the results of the monitor) She sort of huff and put her hands down on a closed folder and said "Look, I am not going to tell you anything because I know nothing about you." I told her that the resident and I had just discussed my history and said that what my previous cardiologist had done was "irrelevant" and the she "only made decisions based on data." It was clear right away that this was going to be an adversarial relationship, which is the LAST thing I want. She said she would see me in six months. I asked if would not be able to get the result from the heart monitor sooner and she repeated that she needed more time to get all my "data" but would be willing to do a "video conference" in 3 months. I will note she was trying to leaver several times as I was speaking with her.
I am sure she may be a brilliant doctor, but I was extremely disappointed and knew this would not be a physician I would be able to work with.
My question is, how should I go about seeking another physician at the clinic without having to start over from square one. Could a new physician pick up after the results of the heart monitor are in? What is the best way to proceed here?
