Be careful on Newmarket Street near the Castle, especially in standstill traffic. I just saw someone snatch a phone right out of an open car window and run under the bridge through a gap in the fence. With festive season approaching, opportunists are out, keep your windows rolled up and valuables out of sight!

Avoid that entire area around the grand parade or train station.
Rest of the city is usually a lot safer.
Had three oaks grab me and pull a poes big kitchen knife on me, thank fully I just skated away told a city safety officer literally around the corner and he said nah that's not our jurisdiction.

My wife and I got mugged there a year or so ago, we didn't realise how bad that area had become. Thankfully only one of the muggers got hurt when his own knife was turned against him, and the other two fled. A taxi full of local dudes also jumped out to help us and chased after the other 2 while offering my wife and I a lift back to the hotel.
I thought it was a reasonable area to got to, boy was I wrong. Worst part is it was our honeymoon week as well.
