The Vatican must make it canon law that any clergy or layperson working for the church, found to have sexually abused children or vulnerable adults, are permanently removed from ministry or any position granting them access to children.

To not have already done this, in the face of hundreds of thousands of victims globally, just in the last several decades, is obscene.

And eliminate their own sus law that "requires" them to destroy records after 10 years.

To me, the worst crime of the Vatican, is that we all know that a majority of adults who perpetrate child sexual abuse, experienced sexual abuse as children. That the church covered up the crimes and permits the guilty to have continued access to children, makes them complicit in future generations of child sexual abuse.

I grew up in the area at the time this was all blowing up (late 90s, early 2000s). all my hockey teammates went to Catholic schools. I remember looking around the locker room and realizing statistically at least one of my friends was getting raped. even worse though was realizing that all of their parents-- grown-ups I liked and previously respected-- had signed their kids up for these schools knowing the chances they'd be raped. formative experience for me.

Those in power really love abusing kids, uh?
