Some YouTube videos not playing

I've been having this weird issue that I blamed on BTTV extension, but apparently it's not.

Some YouTube videos don't play when I click the play button, it shows the spinner, I see some /videoplayback requests, but the button remains in place and nothing actually plays.

Tests done so far:

  • It does work in Private mode (even with uBlock), but not in normal mode.
  • Disabling extensions or clearing cookies doesn't help.
  • The issue resolves by itself after a couple of hours and I don't see any meaningful differences between working and broken videos.

Perhaps you had the same problem as me? Some people found that changing the video quality helps

Fixed it for me. Defaulted to Auto (480P) but changing it to 1080P let the video play instantly.

I can confirm. This is "exactly" what happened and changed it from 480p fixed the problem.

Looks like now need to get a userscript for tampermonkey to force always play at certain resolution.

Randomly happened to me aswell, whenever it happens I just watch in private. Unless it's a Firefox bug then there's nothing we can do about it

As I mentioned, they will start working after some time.

Try disabling BTTV and restarting the browser - it seems to have worked for me a couple times.

Same issue here. Im not sure if it is coincidence but 2 weeks ago Youtube had a problem where nothing from the page would load exept the video player and after that I been having this current issue with Firefox. Previous all this I had 0 issues

Proof of the Youtube problem from 2 weeks ago and that I wasn't the only one so we can discard it was an issue from my end
