Is my amp just bust? Pioneer vsx-1022-k
I bought a home and the old owners left the whole home theatre system in place. Which is freaking amazing! 7.1 surround sound system, only problem is the surround sound doesn't actually work. I have tried a lot to try and get this to work, but even the Apple tv they left plugged in did not give surround sound.
I have tried seemingly everything to get audio to output to the speakers with extremely limited success. I can get the video through, I can use hdmi-thru to get audio through, but if I choose hdmi-amp I get nothing. I have tried using optical in, and got nothing. Nothing through radio. Airplay shows on the tv, but once again no sound. The only way I've ever gotten sound (and faint at that) was by plugging in my laptop through analog. I even tried playing the test tones, and I can't hear a thing.
Is there any hope? Anyone have any ideas? My dad has an old 5.1 av receiver (no hmdi sadly) that we hooked up to the speakers and we could play radio through all of them. So the speakers themselves have no issues, but the receiver cannot seem to do anything. The only other component in the setup is a 4x4 hdmi switcher with twisted pair out to the tv.

The hdmi chipset is shot. Overheating causes the solder points to disconnect.
