"Hit-or-miss" Font awesome symbols in various applications

Good morning!

As detailed in the following image, some font-awesome symbols aren't appearing correctly in Konsole. Also, while looking at dotfiles on github via firefox, there's a lot of squares for symbols I know are font-awesome characters.

(Speculating here) from what I can tell, the fonts seem to have a fallback hierarchy, and some foreign language is taking precedent over the font-awesome font. This might explain the discord and python logos.

Any ideas?
