The word bâr

I'm getting conflicting information for the word bâr as far as the meaning "anger" goes. ChatGPT tells me it's archaic, but Wiktionary or geiriadur.uwtsd.ac.uk seems to indicate it may be a current meaning. Can anyone tell me is it used much nowadays for "anger"?

Aha! I use bâr colloquially (south Ceredigion) as bêr, in the phrase “chwarae bêr ar…”, meaning to fluster, to annoy, to inconvenience, to make feeling bad — as in:

“Mae’r tabledi ‘na yn chwarae bêr ar fy mola i”.

It is only in the context of this phrase in which I use it, and I’ve never heard it used otherwise.

I’ve never looked it up either until reading this post, but have occasionally wondered about its meaning. My occasional curiosity has been answered. Diolch!

That answers my query thanks!

Never heard it on Anglesey. Must be a southern thing

ChatGPT doesn't speask Welsh. If you must use AI, Gemini is a better tool.

I found ChatGPT best for this question, Gemini was ok but was telling me it meant "a bar" (more because of my prompt I think), and Copilot wasn't telling me the anger sense was archaic. Neither was WIktionary, which seems to be disappointing as a Welsh resource so far.

There are so many reasons not to use AI. This is one of them.

Provided you check the answers, they're useful.

How so? Checking an LLM's results means you're looking things up, but you could have done so from the start. This thread is a beautiful example of that: You checked multiple sources and had to ask someone. What did ChatGPT add that you wouldn't have known otherwise?

Edit: Not to mention that you're supporting businesses that are actively making climate change worse while also polluting local communities and draining their drinking water.

If you have to check the answers then what do you think you've achieved in the first place?

Then why go through the trouble? If you gotta check anyways why not just check and not ask ai? It’s like going to the library to research something and bringing your buddy Eric to ask him the questions before you consult the book with the real correct info, not to mention better for the environment.
