[question] VPN + ad blocking proxy in a KVM container

Greetings, fellow Linux gurus!

I'm looking into setting up a sort of All-in-One KVM VM for a number of uses:

  • VPN for backups (rsync) and inter-connection between a server or two, Mikrotik routers and end-user devices.
  • End-user devices include phones. Which is why I'm considering adding an ad blocking capability specifically for them.

Are there any good solutions for this? I think pfSense ticks all the boxes, except, maybe ability to connect Mikrotik devices. Also, some phones for godforsaken reason lose IPSec-IKEv1 connections and haven't pulled the upstream fix in yet (hello, Xiaomi!), so support for IKEv2 is on the wish list.

This is going to be a VM, so it's going to be self-contained and I can install whatever, however, there's no support for WireGuard in RouterOS as of yet, so I'd prefer to use something else for now.

Thanks for telling me of dnscrypt-proxy though!

Mikrotik devices run on RouterOS. They can be technically flashed to OpenWRT, but I'm not willing to go to such lengths yet.

FYI, containers and VMs are vastly different things.

...which I am aware of. Also not all virtualization is the same, so I specified what I'm going to use for this particular application - a KVM VM (which in HVM mode uses Qemu, which is perfect in this case).
