I’ve been doing the Python course and it’s great! I had some powershell scripting experience, so I’m not totally new to programming concepts, but this course has definitely helped me and is quite legit. I just finished my first milestone which is programming a text-based tic tac toe game. I’m excited to do more.

I've learned a little (literally the basic of the basis) or ruby, do you think the python course is too hard for such a beginner? I got it anyway but I wanted to gauge an opinion anyway

No I think the Python course is fantastic, especially for a beginner! Python especially has a lot of tools that are very friendly for beginners. Jupyter Notebook is a great tool for playing with one liners of code and that’s what all the lessons are built around. If you install Anaconda suite you’ll have all the tools you need to get through the lesson. my biggest complaint was how much arithmetic is involved in the first lessons, because I really didn’t think I would need to know that, but I was very wrong. Just stick with it and then you’ll start to realize why they’re focusing 🧘♂️ n teaching you basic arithmetic first before you get to more practical stuff.

Nice thanks!

What language do they use? Does the tic tac toe game use 2 dimensional arrays? Kind of curious… final assignment in my introductory Java class in college was creating a tic tac toe game. It was pretty hard if you didn’t have a good understanding of arrays. It’s a legit assignment.

It’s all in English, and obviously Python 3.8. They give you a list of criteria for the game and you have to figure out how to build it with some of the techniques you learn. I don’t know any Java so I can’t tell you what the Python equivalent of a 2D array is, but my biggest deviation from what’s generally expected was using set list comparisons to check for winning plays.

Oh, yeah I guess if the class is in python - I overlooked that. A 2 dimensional array distributes values in rows and columns, sort of like a power set of all the indices. I’ve never coded in python so I don’t know if you have to creat the board with a 2d array and navigate it via the array or if you have some utilities or functions or methods that are pre-built for you.
I’ve been wanting to try out python but haven’t gotten around to it.
