Who is responsible for the Capital City Trail's maintenance?

Hey gang, I'm new to living in Melbourne (and Aus - I just moved from the UK) and I did the Capital City Trail on a bike today. Overall, I was really really impressed and had a great time. It's really well maintained and so long, leafy and accessible. There were a handful of well-signposted detours and obvious improvements being made, but I did spot some pretty gnarly bits of tarmac, potholes, or confusing junctions which I figure I could feedback to whomever is responsible for maintaining it. Does anybody have any idea of which organisation does that? Thanks!

Used it a few times for infrastructure, mtce issues, works well. Could try that.

What a great answer, thank you!

Generally each of the individual councils that the path passes through. But as with the other comment, you could use Snap Send Solve to send feedback without looking each one up.

Ah yeah we have the same issue in London, roads and walkways are hard to deal with holistically!

I think in general there needs to be an agreed format of path signage across all councils. A lot of paths are pretty confusing at some points.

It's like we need an organisation to build single, uniform system that VicRoads does for cars.

When I lived in Flemington I used to prune the overhanging branches and bushes and sweep the debris off the trail after flooding but moved from there 18 months ago so not sure who does it now.

You can email bicycle network with all the information, you don't need to be a member. They usually can send it to the right agency on your behalf.

That’s great. Also nice to know about, I am a pretty avid bike user and advocate!

I’ve used the snap send solve app for a pothole on that trail. It was too late for my ankle, but was a speedy fix from whatever council was in charge of the area (stonningham?)

Sorry to hear about your ankle, I hope it’s recovered! Thanks for the helpful answer

Parks Victoria is definitely involved in some way, because they're in charge of the new Gipps St bridge. Not sure how they split the maintenance with the councils though.

Thanks :)

Clifton Hill to Dight Falls is unclear for sure, still not sure which side of the river is officially the trail, both have issues with the narrowness of the path.

The path south of Rushall also needs clearer signage when leaving the station imo (also needing to go through the station underpass frankly sucks, not to mention one of the chicane barriers is the wrong way around so collisions are more likely).

Docklands to MPC trail should be better after the footbridge opens but is pretty bad right now.

If it's not obvious I do actually like the trail I just want the best for it

Same! Once you start getting into urban design and use lots of public walkways etc it’s hard to switch off the critical part of the brain but I agree, it is great despite the issues!
