Post Flair Requirements and other mentioned changes are now in effect

Good morning everyone,

Following up on the post from two weeks ago, we are rolling out the changes that were mentioned. We will probably be working out some rough spots as we implement the flair requirements, so if you feel like something needs to be adjusted feel free to shoot us a modmail. You can comment in this post, but it's less likely it will be seen by all the mods and may not get responded to in a timely manner.

________

Also as a reminder, here are the karma/age requirements for the subreddit:

Account is 30 days old

Karma requirements:

  • Posting to the subreddit: 100 subreddit karma
  • Commenting in a chat thread: 50 karma
  • Commenting in a “non-serious” thread: 200 karma
  • Commenting in a “Serious” thread (Flaired with Politics, Crime Post or Serious): 200 subreddit karma

If your post is removed, please message the mods in modmail for review.

That's pretty much how reddit feels to me now a days, and I've been here 12+ years (over various accounts, but this one is 4)

Guess we need a new Philadelphia Reddit page

HelpfulSolidarity

Agreed

javik87

I’m confused as to how a new person can ask about Philadelphia here. Is the subreddit really going the “you need experience to have experience” route?

kipwing

Is there a way to see specific subreddit karma?

This comment chain has some methods of checking your subreddit karma

Thank you. I was worried and then saw it at 5k lmao. I’ve been on Reddit longer than I thought.

CouchHippo2024

By “sub Reddit” does that mean only in the sub that you are trying to post to?

Also, how do I get 100 sub Reddit karma points if I can’t post there because I don’t have enough karma?

oliver_babish

Just want to express gratitude that this sub has joined so many others (including r/fantasyfootball, for which I moderate) in abandoning X.com as a legitimate platform. So far, we don't feel like we've lost anything in implementing this change.

I_eat_mud_

I didn’t even know that sub abandoned it, good shit

Rule 2: This post was removed because it was not related to Philadelphia. If you feel this was done in error, feel free to contact the moderators.

Constant_Astronaut41

why are the Karma rules not listed in the subreddit rules section? Had I not had my post removed for having not enough sub-karma, I would have not known after trying to be a good Redditor and reading through the posted rules after joining the sub but before posting.

Constant_Astronaut41

Apparently, it's because no one [mods] is minding the shop. This was posted over a month ago, and it references a post from two weeks earlier. If you want participation in this sub, how do you expect new people to scroll back through possibly hundreds of threads to just randomly come across rules for karma you expect people to follow? Adding these new karma rules to the main sub-rules should have been done as soon as it was adopted. I don't think that's unreasonable if you want people to contribute and participate.

Can we get some additional post flair options? Maybe a general “news” and “info” catchall? Maybe a meme tag that’s more than our beloved “do attend” and “WEED THREAD!” ones which feel like they serve for mysterious gibberish posting and… weed. Maybe a restaurant/bar one would be good too.

SweetJibbaJams [OP]

mysterious gibberish posting and… weed

I feel like between those and the "photo of the day" that covers about 99% of posts on the subreddit, not sure how much more you want.

We can add some more general options

tamiyatt01d

Not a fan of the limited number of flares. What if I just want to post some art related to Philly? Or something random and funny but relevant? Don’t see anything that works for those.

SweetJibbaJams [OP]

We are open to suggestion for additional flair options

Alarming_College5448

I really needed advice on my trip to Philly man , what are these karma points all for , honestly …

breezbri

This is the stupidest thing I've ever read, how could anyone even get all these specifics unless they're a sub fan before they're even allowed to post. Good luck having two people commenting on posts because no-one qualifies. Or anyone who actually needs to post but can't unless they hang out in the sub to check-off the karma list for who know how long. By that time they won't want to post because it will be irrelevant.

Mar-helko

Well, I am trying to post on this community and the robot is deleting it. I have over 100 karmas. I texted the admin and nobody had answered me

Mar-helko

I recommend you all join Philly group, there is must easier to post if you want to and is also a serious community about Philly

aieemee

hey? can you link it?

Mar-helko

If you type” Philly” on the community search you gonna find it

IAmAccutane

That's a bummer. I've posted here a few times before, didn't get a lot of upvotes. Now I can't post at all.

Budget-Pattern1314

What other subreddits can I post my question to ?

rsmuks

This is kind of nuts right?

Bea-Billionaire

I never understand this kind of gatekeeping and bad for SEO mentality. If I was a reddit ADMIN I would BAN these types of rules because it makes 0 sense. The entire purpose and point of an internet forum is to communicate openly and grow your website audience with interactions and SEO. Why would I want to limit ANY opportunity to do that? Just like mods that delete posts that they 'dont like' or find 'irrelevant', it was still good for SEO.
I mean hell if this wasn't true we wouldnt have entire AIs built off the back of Reddit ;)

It makes 0 sense to me to not be able to post except lazy mods don't want to deal with potential spam filtering (then get another job).

KaijuCowboy666

I don’t understand how this helps anybody new

pixiedustandshit

this is making it impossible to post anything lmfao commenting here to earn the right to post but how can a new person do anything in here it's a city subreddit??? people visit like?

qrhmn

'Post' karma or 'comment' karma? Or the 'combined' karma for users of 'new reddit' -as opposed to 'old reddit' (me).

SweetJibbaJams [OP]

karma is not connected to which version of reddit you are using (old reddit, sh.reddit, mobile, etc.), and all of the totals are combined (posts+comments)

dillera

just use philly
