Disclaimer: Please note that this list is not comprehensive. The /r/PokemonGo moderation team reserves the right to remove content or ban users any time, for breaking the rules of the subreddit

Posting Requirements

All submissions and comments from accounts less than 7 days old will be automatically removed. Additionally, all Comments require at least 10 comment karma, and all posts require at least 50 post karma. Award karma and combined karmas do not count.

Why are we doing this?

Simple!

This is a countermeasure to reduce spam, troll accounts, alt accounts, new users who join the subreddit and do not read the rules and hop in to submit a rulebreaking post among other things. This is an opportunity to browse the subreddit and take some time to familiarise yourself with our rules (especially Rule 3).

Rule One: Politeness and the Reddiquette

1a: Politeness

-Do not contact mods directly. Use modmail if you have an issue. It is creepy, and limits our ability to know what conversations are happening. If you contact a mod directly about a moderation action instead of modmail you will be banned.

1b: Brigades and witchhunts

1c: Creepshots

Rule Two: Restricted content

2a: Relevance

2b: Screenshots and Media

2c: Image macro memes

2d: Link and image submission limits

2e: Text submission limits

2f: Trainer Codes/ Trading request posts/ Remote raid request

Rule Three: Piracy and cheating

What is not allowed

IMPORTANT NOTE: Breaking this rule will result in an immediate ban from the subreddit without a warning.

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Direct links to or naming third-party application/services that violate the ToS breaking (i.e. spoofing tools and automated/botted scanner maps).
  • Tutorial videos showing how to bot/hack/spoof or posts asking about these methods e.g. "How can I setup a bot?"
  • A text post describing similar tricks to those listed above
  • Any form of post/comment promoting cheating strategies, such as automating gameplay or faking any aspect of the game mechanics, or belittling people for not using them
  • Any form of post/comment asking for cheats or offering or asking for users to go to gyms/raids to help take them down
  • Screenshots or videos of 3rd party applications in use (includes but is not limited to spoofing tools, maps, bots etc.).
  • Sharing Coordinates. This is a global subreddit, and the majority of people utilizing coordinates are cheaters.

What is allowed

Examples of allowed discussions under Rule Three include:

  • Discussion of cheating methods without advocating them or naming any in particular, e.g. "What do you think about Niantic taking down trackers and scanners?"
  • Discussing and describing exploits originating from GO itself, e.g. Gym Egg bugs
  • Sharing and discussion of tools for getting around the game's jailbreak/root checks, as long as it is not for the purpose of cheating
  • Discussing information found by others in the apk file or game_master, as long as it is not for the purpose of cheating

What is borderline

If you are not sure whether your post/comment would break rule 3, please modmail us and ask for a clarification.

Why this rule

To be frank we don’t want to promote anything that currently causes account bans(we know people like to talk about IV checkers, so we'll allow them. Though be warned, there's no guarantee that they won't trigger a suspension).

We aren’t Niantic and we don’t know how they operate (they said they hated spoofers, but took nearly 2 years to actually do some kind of punishment), so we’d hate it if something that we allowed conversation or promotion of, caused our users to lose access to their accounts. So again, be careful with what you do as you could still get banned for using things that a majority of the community uses.

Using this approach helps us ensure equality and consistency with our moderation while hopefully also allowing you to feel less restricted with what content you can discuss.

Rule Four: Self-promotion and exchanges

4a: Spam

4b: Self-promotion

4c: Exchange threads

4d: AMAs, Surveys, and Giveaways

4e: Discord, Facebook, Telegram and similar links
