Combat style question
So I just cleared the base game on twilight and now I'm on midnight. I'm attempting to inquire about the Gikei Ryu style. I was super hyped to get the blue demon's style after all the hell he gave me. In every video, I see people absolutely destroying their enemies and making it look even cooler. However, I tried it and don't really get it. I don't know if I'm playing it wrong or something but it feels kinda, slow? Awkward? Do I just need to git gud? I'm looking for opinions. My favorite style equips are mugai ryu, tennen risshin ryu and Hayabusa ryu.

Gikei is a tricky one. My first impression was very positive because its advantages as far as speed and mobility goes seems clear early on, but I would say it’s not an easy style to master.
Take the counterspark for example. My first thought, like many others, was “cool if I whiff I basically do a dodge”. But this isn’t necessarily a good thing. If you meant to land an effective counterspark but whiffed Gikei is “forgiving” in that you teleported a bit so maybe won’t get punished, but you still whiffed and possibly ended in a position that was unintended and cost Ki. In short Gikei’s parry window is relatively narrow, so either you practice adjusting or switch back to stance that’s more forgiving in CS.
As far as MAs go, it’s strong overall, but most of it is primarily about re-positioning for me. The shuriken attack for example creates a bit of distance while whittling a bit away at Ki. Shadow clone on the other hand allows you to close the gap with an attack. Both of these I tend to use more as an intermediate MA between attacks often on other stances. The triangle attack is a pretty good finisher when enemy is about to have Ki depleted but otherwise it’s pretty risky. The VA I prefer on Gikei is the one that allows you to kick off an enemy then grapple attack towards them, another very strong move upon Ki depletion.
Hope this helps, I’m sure others chime in on other ways to use.
