At What Point Should You Just Turret Hug, and When You Do, How Far From Turret Range is Safe?

Hey everyone, this came up during a (nonranked) game where I was trying to learn a champ and was doing pretty bad. I started turret hugging when I was 0/3 or 0/4 (if I remember right), but sometimes I would run out from tower a little to get some cs or make sure I was close enough to the minions dying to get xp. Sometimes that would work out for me, other times I would get killed again. Is there a specific point where you will start hugging turret (say, when I went 0/2)? Is it better to stay away from one wave that's outside of your turret range to avoid dying, or is it safe up to a certain point (i didn't go past midway in the lane)? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Just try to stay in the XP Range if the enemy lets you, determine from how gar a way the enemy Can damage you and space yourself outside of that.

Ok, thanks! I do have an issue when I'm behind with trying to go in for last hits and getting clobbered

Yea,i struggle with that too.Thats just greed, u try to get a few roams in if the enemies freeze and try to setup plays with My jungler

Try to figure out if and when a minion wave is pushing at you. You can miss a few minions to save health, but more importantly you don't have to CS a low health minion if your minions aren't attacking it, and can wait for it to come closer to you later.

Within/really close to turret range? Not sure how to specify more than that

Top. And I'm terrible at that.

i guess mele camp? i would trie learning wave control so you dont have to overextend to farm while the wave not chrashing into the tower and missing cs. also it offers gank opportunities for your jng.

Ok, thanks

i hope i could help a bit.

You did. Wave clear is definitely a weakness in my skill set and I need to work on that more.

gl then!

When you are 0/1, you need to start respecting the enemy laner and being cautious about taking CS. If you're 0/2, you just need to back off and get the CS you can take when its safe (which means you REALLY have to learn to CS under turret).

Think about it this way: if you leave to go for one wave, that's about 100 gold. When you die, you're then giving much more gold than that to the enemy team, which means they'll stomp you harder.

That's a good way to think about it, thank you!

I'd avoid turret hugging as it's difficult to learn the limits of your champion while doing so. Also, being too close to your turret can be dangerous against champions like Graves and Poppy who will use the structures to their advantage.

Staying close to your turret can be really good with specific champions that are good against turret dives, though. If you're getting dove, it's better to get dove under your turret, and champions like Shen and Rumble can easily win dives, even by multiple members.

I know turret hugging isn't anywhere near optimal for learning a champ, but I had kind of just shifted into damage control to avoid ruining the game for my team. Was that not the right choice? And thanks, that's a very good point about enemy champs utilizing structures, I'm lucky none of them where in my game or else I would have been screwed. I definitely need to be more conscious of things like that going forward.
