USPS says my package was delivered yesterday "in/at mailbox"

I recently encountered a baffling USPS delivery mystery and I'm seeking your input on what could have gone awry. Here are the unusual details:

  1. I utilize Informed Delivery, and while my mail envelopes made it into the mailbox as expected, the accompanying package vanished. This occurred not just once, but on consecutive days, even after giving USPS a chance to rectify the issue today (like if they just had a bonehead moment scanned the package and then put it back down in the truck instead of in my mailbox... we are only human after all)

  2. With a security camera pointed at the street, I observed the delivery closely. The time lapse between the "in/at mailbox delivery scan" and me checking was less than 8 minutes. And the delivery tracking matches when the truck pulled up (down to the minute)

Despite this, theft seems unlikely as the security footage showed the USPS truck pull up, linger for a brief moment, and then depart. The package was seemingly in their possession, yet it didn't make it to my mailbox.

The package isn't too large for the mailbox, ruling out that potential issue. The tracking timestamp aligns perfectly with the USPS truck's arrival, delivery of envelopes, but no package.

As Occam's Razor suggests, the simplest explanation is often the truth which leads me down the path of them tossing it in my neighbor's mailbox instead of mine as the most likely thing that has happened. the scans are accurate but I'll admit perhaps not down to the second. I'm puzzled and open to any ideas or suggestions from the community, silly or serious. It's not a high-value item, just some specific automotive relays that are required for my car to turnover so I'll take some levity in lieu of any plans since I won't be going anywhere tonight at least.

Call the office. A supervisor can look up the GPS location of where your package was scanned at.

Assuming it's an honest mistake, they'll send the carrier out to retrieve your package and deliver it correctly (probably tomorrow tho)
