What's the best approach to finding a nice guild these days?

Hey /r/wow,

I've been playing on EU Lordaeron/Tichondrius for the better part of my gaming life and have spent most of this time with the same people - a casual-leaning and fun group of old raidmates and friends. Starting with Cataclysm and every expansion thereafter however, they all sort of... dwindled away. I had hoped WoD would revitalize things, but it unfortunately didn't, not even at launch. So as of right now, me and my gf are mostly alone which... can be rather hard on the mood.

I've been thinking and realized that I couldn't just keep waiting for them to come back alone to have some fun again. So I was wondering: How would one go about finding a friendly and talkative guild in modern WoW? You used to befriend instance and PUG colleagues, but with LFR and all the cross-realm connectivity, there's so little need for conversation, it's difficult to get to know one another. Obviously, I could apply willy nilly, but I would prefer not to end up in a guild where nobody knows each other or one that is highly focused on raids.

Anyway, before doing anything stupid, I thought I'd just ask into the room if you have a ideas or story on how to best go about this.

And check the forums for recruitment posts. You're more likely to find a quality of life match on another realm (just statistically, idk anything about your realm), so you need to decide if you're willing to transfer or reroll for a good match

Yeah, that came to mind, but the server forum is slow going as well as dominated by high end guilds. Also, it's a german server, so I'm unlikely to find or reach anyone over reddit. I was more hoping for some general ingame tips. Getting to know people used to be easy. Not anymore I feel.

It's a player's market as far as guilds are concerned, post an ad about yourself, don't look for a guild ad that matches you.

Also, invite people to party! If you're a tank or a healer, poke trade/gen/lfg before you queue up and offer quick-queues. Mythic and/or CM dungeon groups sometimes get on VoIP, so that's a decent way to meet people. Also arena and RBG groups probably still use VoIP if they're at all serious

The best social experience i had on warcraft was on an RP realm. I didn't really fit in with the spirit of the server, but people were the most friendly i'd been exposed to since i started playing back in TBC.

I mostly check on wowprogress since most somewhat serious guild usually have a profile there.

If I was to ever move guilds I'd look for one that has lots of guild achievement points: that's an indication that they're active in a lot of aspects of the game.

Then I'd speak to an officer on Teamtalk or Mumble etc to get a feel for where they are in raids, PVP, or whatever you're interested in.

Im sure there is a sub for just that.
