Is EnemyGrid about to die?

Considering the recently announced changes to the nameplate API:

Nameplates

In patch 7.1, addons have been restricted from acting on nameplate. Addons can still gather information, target, and customize nameplates, but can no longer use their unit tokens for spell casts. This is similar to how nameplates worked in Warlords of Draenor.

Functions were added to help addons:

Added:

SetNamePlateFriendlySize, GetNamePlateFriendlySize, SetNamePlateEnemySize, GetNamePlateEnemySize, SetNamePlateSelfClickThrough, GetNamePlateSelfClickThrough, SetNameplateFriendlyClickThrough, GetNameplateFriendlyClickThrough, SetNamePlateEnemyClickThrough, GetNamePlateEnemyClickThrough

These functions allow a specific area on the nameplate to be marked as a preferred click area such that if the nameplate position query results in two overlapping nameplates, the nameplate with the position inside its preferred area will be returned:

SetNamePlateSelfPreferredClickInsets, GetNamePlateSelfPreferredClickInsets, SetNamePlateFriendlyPreferredClickInsets, GetNamePlateFriendlyPreferredClickInsets, SetNamePlateEnemyPreferredClickInsets, GetNamePlateEnemyPreferredClickInsets,

Removed:

SetNamePlateOtherSize, GetNamePlateOtherSize

Does this really spell the end for the popular addon EnemyGrid? But what exactly is being broken here? I have a bit of a hard time to make sense of what is being said.

Is what they're removing the ability to manually "interact" with the grid and click on it to select targets? Then why did they say addons can still target nameplates? Or do they just remove the ability for macros to use nameplate tokens to target things via script?

Either way, won't EnemyGrid remain fully capable to list enemies and their dots in an orderly fashion as before? If so, that's at least half the functionality saved.

It sounds like they are just making it so you can't assign a click to cast event. Target and mouse over functionality still work or this would break all raid based grid addons.

So you can't assign left click to dot the target, but you can mouse over and hit your dot spell.

Probably.
