No, he was talking about the soldiers, not the people honoring them.

we're seriously straining land use across the world
What do you mean by this?
athermop
I'd say "sure I suppose, but the universe doesn't care how it impacts us emotionally".
athermop
Accent isn't the same thing as pronunciation.

set up a basic skill telling Claude how to use your account there and then you can use a bajillion different generators.

Electronics are pretty cheap. Granted, car electronics are not consumer electronics. But they're a small part of the price of cars today.
Engines last longer than they ever have before on average.
The real thing is that automakers nowadays make, and dealers stock, high margin trims and styles because they sell enough to make a lot of money and they don't have to stock and try to make money on low-selling, low-margin vehicles. People trying to save money don't buy new cars anyway. They buy high-depreciation few-year-old cars.

lol, you haven't seen skyrocketing inflation. I mean...just to take a recent example Venezuela in the late 2010's was seeing hundreds of thousands of percent inflation

Your mistake is thinking it's a logical argument. It's a social one. It means "nobody asked you".
When someone says "look at my X", they're not asking for an audit. You're answering a question no one asked.
You're also trying to assert your values are better than theirs.
Combine all of that with low expected payoff (no one is going to change their values because some redditor told them they have bad values) and you're in a situation where it's just a big negative, socially.

Hmm...
Smart people do fall for crazy shit outside of their field, but I'm thinking the expertise isn't the right variable to call out.
Someone can be the world expert in bigfoot or something crazy like that. People make valid and good contributions outside of their field every day.
I think what matters more is whether you have a good internal mechanism for exposing your ideas to feedback and updating your beliefs.

I've also found as I got older that I just do things just to make people happy. I hadn't really thought too much about other people finding the same thing out.

They didn't say let her get away with it though?

Literally every country has its insanities.

like I said, I'm not getting into a gish gallop sort of thing here. I will just say that you should look into the work of Andy Masley
athermop
So does this mean there is no such thing as a bad actor?
athermop
What do you mean we need more trees? Is there a shortage of these sorts of trees in GA?
athermop
I mean, laws aren't what sets what's true and moral.
Are you going to change your opinion on the subject if CA changes their law? No, you won't.
athermop
this is mostly all false, but I'm not getting gish galloped here. Basically you're either making stuff up or haven't looked for actual research on these questsion.
athermop
Agreed the cop shouldn't have hit him. But 'you were probably a dumb kid too' isn't an argument. It's irrelevant. Whether a commenter got in trouble at 14 has no bearing on whether the cop was right.
athermop
This argument only holds if there's no cost to pair programming.

The thing with AI is that its massively scalable and tenacious, not that its doing magic.
athermop
how dare you be so reasonable
athermop
Lot of wiggle room there, you can draw the line for "too skinny" and "slightly overweight" wherever you want to make your claim true.
Basically your hope would've been that all AI researchers in the world got together and agreed to not develop AI.
