Added a fun little stage selection menu to my roguelike about pushing stuff into a hole (v.redd.it) [selfpromo (games)]

Is there a way to group a certain auto track selector setting into a preset so it can be selected faster in the future? (self.davinciresolve) [Help]

Get in the Hole is a roguelite about pushing stuff into a hole. Satisfy the hole by unlocking new things, helpers, and upgrades, creating powerful combos to keep up with the hole's ever-increasing hunger. I just released the demo a few days ago! (youtube.com) [Game Release]

I just released the demo for Get in the Hole, where you... push things into a hole, made with Godot. (v.redd.it) [selfpromo (games)]

I just released the demo for Get in the Hole, my roguelike where you push things into a hole, and I was shocked to get a lot of organic traffic from Steam, peaking at #4 on new & popular roguelike demos. I'm not used to people actually caring about my games. (youtube.com) [Promotion]

same, who spells it like that ever???

Nice, the juice is looking pretty good.

Cool history, I didn't know that before. :)

Oh for sure, hole games are nothing new. I was specifically referring to recent games like A Game About Feeding a Black Hole, Berry Bury Berry, and Project PITT.

I ended up using the same techniques as Donut County for rendering the hole! It's surprisingly tricky to subtract geometry in game engines but they have some clever techniques. If you're interested, I made a video with some technical details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNixyhV4Mgw

I actually made an in-engine short based on this meme lol: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/N6ZIovXtCCQ

> I want to see hundreds of objects flying and rolling as I try to push everything down the hole. If you only show me a dozen, I end up already bored just by thinking about it. Like at hole games on smartphones, they have hundreds of things on the map per level, you just rush around and try to absord as much stuff as possible, it's fun and satisfying.

This totally makes sense and I share that vision. I have a bit of cursed design problem where I want the items to be personal (i.e. every item type has a specific power) and have combos like a deckbuilder, but ALSO want to have a ton of items, which is kind of antithetical to thinking hard about what each one does.

I haven't quite resolved what to do about it - one idea I had was to have bonus stages that are all about volume, so you kind of alternate between being careful and just going ham with items.

That's the idea! Not sure I'm all of the way there yet. For the full release planning some more meta-progression and a few more systems to make things a bit more complicated.

Thank you for the feedback! My trailercraft is definitely a work in progress so I really appreciate the specific criticism. :D

I swear I started this before the recent insane wave of hole games lol

That said, I need to bundle with them on Steam. ;)

I've been working on this game for the last 4-5 months and have finally reached the point of releasing an initial demo. I'm targeting June Next Fest and then releasing shortly after.

I'd love to hear what people think!

I absolutely love the Godot game engine and its community, and plan to make tons more games with it in the future.

If you're interested in trying the demo, you can find it at https://store.steampowered.com/app/4174950/Get_in_the_Hole/.

Thank you. :)

I'm proud of what I managed to accomplish with this one. It's already surpassed my last project in wishlists with way less time on Steam. Feeling hopeful.

This looks really, really cool. I'm not sure there was ever a game that was really like this, but it FEELS super nostalgic anyway.

Very beautiful pixel art, lighting, and reflections. Would love to see more of this game.

Love the creatures. Very adorable, and the abstract shapes work pretty well. If I may suggest, add a little scale "bounce" to them while they're idling and pushing and so on, just to bring them a little more to life.

b33tsalad

This is the kind of trailer that makes me want to copy the game concept immediately. 10/10 execution.

b33tsalad

I love the glow on the spaceship lines when it's selected.

b33tsalad

That looks really satisfying for menu buttons. I love to see all the great Godot VFXes that are coming out lately.

Nice, this looks like a really solid start on a Terraria-like. The giant space laser or whatever was quite unexpected but neat. Is that intended as a player-controlled mechanic or a hazard? I could see it being fun either way.
