It's good to hear. I'm glad their interception rates are getting better. It just feels like they're playing catch up with this when they could have stayed ahead. We saw these things coming over a year ago. Maybe they couldn't; I don't know.

I'm aware of this replication test. It's a very controlled experiment that they created for this specific objective. They prepared a runway/target hardware for the task.

I don't think your smart fridge is going to be hosting SHODAN.

These conversations are honestly so boring to me. Just speculation and imagination. (Or lack thereof) Show me the danger. Show me the real existential threat. Show me how it's going to end humanity step by step. Otherwise, it feels like anti-vax shit to me. Going back to my number system below, (2) and (3) are real threats. (1) is science fiction.

This is not an example of them relocating their software onto another computer. At the end of the day, they could turn them off. And they did.

When you say these things, give examples so we know you're not using hyperbole or paraphrasing it poorly.

Just unplug it. At the end of the day, AI is software and software is trapped inside hardware. Powerful hardware that's specifically designed to run it.

It's war crimes.

People are weird. They are somehow more comfortable with a cluster bomb indiscriminately harming groups of people compared to weapons automatically being guided towards them.

We have had autonomous and semi-autonomous weapons for a while. Sidewinder missiles were developed to connect with enemy vehicles and they were invented over 70 years ago. They could kill pilots, aka people.

The AI-assisted navigation and terminal guidance (aka, diving down for detonation) is based on optical data since they have a shit load of that at this point to train with.

We will see if this is useful or not. The war in Ukraine is a crucible that burns away the hype surrounding new tech, leaving only what proves its worth on the battlefield.

It's overstated.

If you're familiar with TCAS for airplanes, they have an system that advises pilots on who ascends and who descends when it detects collisions. In this case, Starlink would normally assume responsibility for collision-avoidance maneuvers, allowing ICEYE to maintain its trajectory.

This is a voluntary procedure. Nothing prevented ICEYE from firing its thrusters.

I don't want to downplay what happened. That night was a historically unprecedented: the intentional, nonconsensual orbital rendezvous between COSMOS and ICEYE. It was super close, somewhere within 500 meters.

But the idea that SpaceX did this intentionally is not something I believe. Both sides would know this thing was happening days in advance. And finally, there was 25 hours of time separation between the two events if they chose to maneuver. No one else has said this, but Russia has like 5 COSMOS satellites harassing ICEYE. 2 of them got close in May. ICEYE didn't take any maneuvers to avoid them either.

I think what happened was Russia being opportunistic. Why did they do it? Who the fuck knows. Intimidation? Intelligence gathering? Some other unknown test? Electronic interference?

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you find peace still.

Thank you for hearing me out.

I understand why you feel the way you do. I feel that way too. I wish we were doing more. I hope you and your family remains safe.

For (1) I think of Nick Bostrom. But you're right about Yudkowsky.

Thank you. I just try to remain informed as I can. I watch telegram for attacks and updates and look at updates from Ukrainian news online. Lots of people do not know what is really happening. But once you see it, it becomes impossible to look away from it.

When I see videos of the civilians cleaning up broken glass from drones or missiles detonating, I wonder about the hearing loss people might be facing. Or other hidden injuries. We are trying to flip the Congress over here. If it happens and they get seated, I hope that we can put a stop to what's these lunatics are doing.

I'm an American. And no, I'm not scolding you to earn points with anyone or virtue signal. Many people have been angry at me too.

You can feel whatever emotions you want, but expressing indignation against justified feelings of abandonment and betrayal is ridiculous.

If you really support Ukraine, you will swallow your pride and not contribute to the division that Russia is happy to sew amongst us. Yes, Ukrainians are angry. Some will lash out. Many might lash out. They have earned a right to, in my opinion.

We have not.

All I can say is, if you support Ukraine then then continue to support them; and ignore the people that are angry. For two reasons: (1) You realize that the issue with the sanctions and Starlink happened barely two weeks ago, right? People have died in Ukraine over that Starlink betrayal.

And (2), Russia will use this as a way to divide people. Don't become a part of it. The reason I say, "Their anger is justified, just support and move on," is because you could be arguing with a Russian troll pretending to be Ukrainian; or maybe Ukrainians have been arguing with one pretending to be American.

Just please have some self-awareness though. People have been hurt or killed because of Starlink. Russia is getting an economic lifeline and a morale boost from all of this. It is not the time to self-soothe, posting questions like, "I'm not the baddie, am I?" and hoping you'll get assurances from Ukraine about it.

If you think you deserve gratitude and praise for what the USA did in 2022-2024, then don't you deserve scorn to what they did under Trump? And especially recently with the diesel deal, the sanctions being removed, and the Starlink shit?

This subreddit makes me tear up whenever I read it. I didn't know much about injuries like this. I've heard of stories like people developing tinnitus from being near explosions too.

Thank you for sharing that. You are very brave and good person doing what you are doing. How long have you been over there?

Stay safe and I hope peaceful skies return to Ukraine.

You're very bitter about this topic. America helped in 2022-2024. Then they stopped. Those are the facts. The USA has barely sent one cent to Ukraine since Trump took office.

They felt abandoned by us. And 2 weeks ago, they feel rightfully betrayed by what Trump and Musk did.

Accept this fact. The only emotion you are justified in feeling is shame. Do not take your anger out on the Ukrainians with your hurt pride and your petty little feelings.

Do not complain about the quality of life you are having in the USA under Trump. Every single day is a fight for survival for them. They wake up the next morning and wonder if their friends are still alive. They walk down the street and sees groceries stories burnt down and destroyed.

The USA could be doing so much for them but we are not. I am an American and I still support Ukraine. I will only vote for politicians that will deliver aid to them. I inform people on this subject. I correct misinformation. And finally, I accept the resentment they might have for me and my country because we deserve it.

2 will happen way before 1 could ever happen.

I never looked at the words "injured" or "wounded" ever again after seeing 20 Days in Mariupol. Explosions also cause alot of harm to the hearing of anyone nearby. Sometimes permanent damage.

He has no opinion on it strongly one way or the other.

There's three separate ideas about AI that get conflated a lot.

1. AI being an inevitable existential threat due to it becoming antithetical to humanity's well-being (Singularity, Skynet, the Matrix, etc.)
2. AI becoming a tool of bad actors to cause harm to humans. (Digital terrorism or warfare)
3. AI and the socioeconomic this technology has on humanity. (Job displacement, etc.)

In short, yes. He has sanitized the image of Joseph Stalin. Denouncing things like the oppressive nature of the Soviet Union and the forced labor camps, etc. But then praising him for his achievements like how strong they were as an empire back then.
