Every Ojibwe elder I’ve ever spoken to had told me that one drop of Anishinaabe blood means you’re Anishinaabe. The only ones who make a big deal out of quantum only do it because they are afraid of white people taking money(i.e. per capita or dividend checks) or other appropriation. Blood quantum is largely an American pedigree system, though we can thank the Brits for introducing the idea. We rejected that with Riel, Dumont, and every successive Métis government from the Manitoba Provisional Government to the buffalo hunts to the MNC. Race-shifting is a real problem though. Considering the mess settlers and other colonizers made of our families, I doubt we’ll ever satisfactorily solve that problem.

“Very polite and amiable may sometimes say to a Métis, ‘You don’t look at all like a Métis. You surely can’t have much Indian blood. Why, you could pass anywhere for pure White.’It is true that our Indian origin is humble, but it is indeed just that we honour our mothers as well as our fathers. Why should we be so preoccupied with what degree of mingling we have of European and Indian blood? No matter how little we have of one or of the other, do not both gratitude and filial love require us to make a point of saying, ‘We are Métis’?”

Never heard of 1/32 Metis.

At this point he’s daring the world to come at him.

That’s what I thought.

So I’m not allowed to question the poster at all. Got it.

Is this a “War on Christmas” thing being disguised as a community thing? I mean the unrealistic “giant sand castles” thing throws flags for me. I’m over the culture war bs.
csimenson
Watch me shed “being” American. Also, why are you using terms normally associated with being trans? Assigned at birth? Just no better way to put it??
csimenson
I tell people that I am Little Shell Metis because my indigenous roots are primarily and most recently Ojibwe with a Cree branch way back during the days we were becoming Metis. I make sure to say Metis, because saying I’m Little Shell raises eyebrows and inevitable questions about blood quantum.

As far as what American notaries can do for certainty, I only know for certain that we can notarize the Statutory Declaration in Lieu. It’s too murky for me to take a chance on being a guarantor for anyone outside of the US or Canada. I have to wonder if notaries public was defined. Haven’t found that answer. Alberta is the only province to allow commissioners of oaths without attachment to a law firm, and that is the closest equivalent I could find to an American notary. Everywhere else requires licences, some level of secondary education, or be in the employ of an attorney.

I did check and yes if you’re applying from within the US or Canada it must be someone you’ve known for 2 years. Outside of those two countries does not apply. So I could do it for an Australian or a British person, but not for a Canadian or an American. The only thing I’m allowed to do in those situations is notarize the Statutory Declaration.

I am a commissioned American Notary Public and I can act as a guarantor, the caveat is that I can only do it if you are applying from OUTSIDE Canada and the United States. I can also notarize the Statutory Declaration in Lieu. I cannot help you with any other part of the immigration or passport processes, including preparing applications. Those are best handled by a qualified immigration lawyer.

Spring break is about to happen. Seriously though, with world events the way they are, are moms and dads getting their kids home rather than make them face potential campus conscription campaigns in another state away from home? I doubt that it’s because Missoula housing has suddenly become insanely affordable.

They disagree with each other in minor ways, usually.

The Washington Post’s umpteenth run at both-sidesism.

Kind of like doing the easy ones first so proper time can be spent on the more complicated ones.

The draugr were living human beings under the Dragon Cult so it would stand to reason that they would be taught Shouts to defend their lords both living and dead. Are you assuming they are a different species native to Skyrim?

If it helps, I plan to totally immerse myself in being Canadian. I haven’t decided if I want to renounce my US citizenship. Still have family here and don’t want to deal with extra border bothers…for now.

Je prévois de déménager à Edmonton. Je me concentrais sur l'apprentissage du michif du Sud, mais apprendre le michif-cri sera plus pratique en Alberta.

Don’t buy into the Boomer-inspired narrative that each generation must endlessly and harshly criticize, even hate, the younger generations. As a Gen X, I’ve seen, and called out, this happening to two and the upcoming third one, Gen A. Boomers are losing their grip and keeping any divisions they can slows down their power loss.

Of course Democrats consider it that way. They have their own loyalty expectations and tests. “Vote Blue, No Matter Who” is the nice way they put it though. They act like we owe them our votes. In the Overton Window, Democrats are right wing to center right. If you don’t think they wouldn’t keep some policies in place (Obama’s promise to shutter Gitmo, then excused keeping it open, for example.), that’s the naivety they’re hoping for. Though they would do it in way that would make it palatable to liberals. Actual leftists and conservatives would rightly call it out. Here comes the Democrat version of jack booted thugs. No thanks. Enough right wing rule.

I was up in Kalispell last summer. The Flathead has changed. It no longer feels like home. It feels as foreign as Canada did during my first trip to Cranbrook.

There is no mechanism in federal law or the Constitution that gives any President even a semblance of power over elections. It’s not even within the scope of an executive order. Congress and the Supreme Court keep expanding Presidential power by either upholding his decrees or just not telling him, “No, you can’t do that.”
