Lol, right?

Dude's out here commenting worse than AI slop on reddit about a topic he has zero background in, based on false information, reaffirming his surface level look from a youtube video from three years ago, in response to an article he didn't read past part of the title, and patting himself on the back for it...

Then has the gall to say garbage in, garbage out as if that isn't his life's motto... 😆

And still anti-techers will blindly upvote it because someone said AI bad and used the word "slop".

xTiming-

"our" - you weren't even in the comment chain doing anything other than spamming, weirdo...

xTiming-

Nah, honestly I'm a few years out of game dev, but if I were working on a game now I'd do the same.

Focus on overall design, architecture, work on the creative parts like levels, enemies, mechanics, etc, and just leave the menial code writing to AI.

The creative part and the seeing it work in the end are typically the fun parts anyways.

xTiming-

The joy can be enhanced or maintained if you shift perspective, honestly.

It's less about writing boilerplate, poring over code, and memorizing algorithms and their uses now, and much more about creativity in the overall game/product design, and engineering+architecture.

If you mean "software developer" in the sense of code monkey then yes, a lot of the joy is taken out because you don't need to sit there semi-blindly writing code for hours anymore.

And I don't mean code monkey in a bad sense - I feel for the people who really enjoyed digging deep into a coding session based on pre-set requirements, and just doing the coding itself. But yes, it just isn't comparable to AI agents these days.

xTiming-

Mate, if you think that sentiment is only reddit, then YOU need a break from reddit. 😆

xTiming-

Mate... Jobs aren't THAT hard to find, especially with your talent for writing mediocre fiction...

xTiming-

Thanks for the serious answer. This is good to hear, because there are a lot of comments recently from multiple sides that feel very spammy and just take away from any actual discussion when it comes to relevant plugin/development/AI topics.

xTiming-

Because almost everyone here knows it

obviously not, looking at the past few days 😆

xTiming-

Just report the robotic "AI bad" spammers that have no actual opinion behind their low quality posts.

It's cool for a personal project - I think using AI to prototype fun personal stuff is a nice way to drive creativity, as long as proper thought goes into the project if it were ever to get bigger. But sadly, in the future avoid mentioning AI or just share it with friends on other communities if you don't want to be attacked here.

xTiming-

Good. That is exactly how it should be - as a starting point, just block the idiots that don't play nicely from hitting the API. Wiki admins showing again that they know what they're doing, and handling a shitty situation as best they can in this moment.

Unfortunately, besides stressing the wiki needlessly and maliciously, that garbage from inexperienced/malicious vibecoders also gives ammunition to the annoying "AI bad" spammers on this subreddit who have no nuance and no actual opinions about plugin creation or modern software engineering, and just want to bash people for easy upvotes.

Can't wait until this saga is over, posts go back to being interesting and fun again, and the non-contributors from every angle crawl back in their holes.

xTiming-

AI isn't forcing you and others to be unmitigated assholes to random people on reddit because you don't personally like a topic, any more than it is forcing inexperienced or bad-meaning plugin creators from using it to generate garbage.

The one side is accountable for generating garbage plugins, and they're getting properly called out for it by people with actual opinions and experience. You (although thankfully not fully), and others are spamming and copy pasting the same tired "AI bad" flame and trying to silence any discussions you don't like.

Take accountability for your own actions instead of constantly deflecting to the thing everybody already knows, and nobody is arguing about.

xTiming-

I mean I don't care what other people "defending" AI think, nor am I misunderstanding the valid points related to AI use, but that's not the topic.

Honestly, vibe coded garbage will weed itself out over time, and high quality content will win out. If "vibe coded garbage" is high quality enough to win out, and the creator acts in good faith to maintain and improve it, then that should probably tell you something, regardless of method.

The real problem is that a majority of the spammers spewing copy-pasted anti-AI bashing in every single showcase thread neither know whether the things they're commenting on are made with AI, or even care, so they wrap up people with legitimate knowledge into their spam and vitriol both when reacting to the posts themselves, and the comments in them. It has created an environment where even trying to discuss plugin creation in good faith requires you not to ever mention AI, even in passing, or the discussion is over.

My original comment in this thread suggested getting rid of both plugin showcases, and obvious rule breaking behavior from these spammers, to stop the mods from having to worry about it, since every plugin posted regardless of quality is flamed anyways.

Do you disagree with that proposal?

xTiming-

Why exactly are you under the impression I give a shit?

Excitedly awaiting my free psychoanalysis based on a 5 post back and forth with a spammer.

xTiming-

I'd rather not.

I keep this reddit account separate from my professional, semi-professional and public facing work, specifically because of this topic and countless other topics like it in the past, and I've done that for over 15 years at this point.

I'm 100% sure you'll form a wrong opinion based on that, but thankfully for me that doesn't affect reality.

xTiming-

No, I think anybody reasonable would actually rather hold people responsible for their own actions.

If you reactively bash anybody who posts a creation of theirs on the basis of AI use, without having an actual indication of whether it is AI-generated, low quality, etc or not, and without even having the background to understand the difference between non-AI creation, AI-assisted creation, and fully AI-generated, then you're objectively the one in the wrong.

The proper response is to ignore, downvote, or report and move on, unless you can provide an actual opinion.

xTiming-

Yeah, It's a shame. I use to do hobbyist/semi-professional gamedev, hobbyist plugin/mod creation, etc some years ago as well for many different games.

I can't see myself getting into it again currently, with or without AI, because I usually shared my work both for others to use, and to help people with concepts/examples. But people these days are irrationally nasty, often without even having the knowledge to back up their mudslinging.

xTiming-

I'm sorry your reading comprehension falls into the class of people who can't identify the phone number of a business in the "contact us" section of their website. 🤷

I can't communicate with the illiterate, so enjoy re-reading your next response on your own.

xTiming-

Yep, there's a difference between disagreeing civilly, and posting the spam that most of these blindly anti-AI posters are spamming.

I wonder how many legitimate plugin developers will be turned off from developing plugins or posting their creations because they just get harrassed by spammers on reddit for it. So if that's gonna be the trend, better just ban plugin showcases altogether, and also start deleting comments that are just unproductive and hateful and banning repeat spammers.

In theory, any anti-AI spammers should be happy with that solution but I suspect they don't want the subreddit to increase in quality as much as they want to gatekeep topics they don't agree with, and get validation for their copy-pasted opinions, while still retaining the ability to spam and bash people.

I also want to be clear there's a lot of anti-AI or at least AI-skeptical commenters with extremely good points that deserve to participate - but unfortunately those discussions derail too quickly with low quality commenters being allowed.

xTiming-

You have no idea about my background, and your copy pasted opinion doesn't change the reality of my background, but if it helps you sleep at night, pat yourself on the back.

Regardless, thanks for proving my point - I'm not the one appearing underqualified in this comment chain.

xTiming-

At least I'm trying to discuss, and reporting rule breaking posts and comments, instead of spamming crap like this thread, and "L tAkE", and whatever comment you copied from 100 others of the exact same comment everywhere where topics you don't personally like show up in legitimate discussion.

Form an opinion, and lets talk. But you can't, otherwise you would be talking. No more value in your participation than people who prompt AI and copy+paste the response instead of thinking for themselves. 🤷

xTiming-

Can mods also ban the harrassment and spam comments on every post and against every commenter, that might have a tangential relation to AI use or the topic of AI?

Most of those discussions that come up inevitably could be 1000% more productive if there were not just a bunch of people spamming the same uninformed crap.

We need more people like the wiki admins, plugin creators who respond genuinely to feedback, and people with actual knowledge who discuss plugin creation and AI related issues in good faith - not just anti-techers spamming up the threads, bashing people, and trying to silence any discussion because they irrationally hate that new tools exist that they don't agree with.

The people determined to vibecode plugins with zero programming or software engineering knowledge and zero interest in learning either of those are anyways going to ignore these threads/discussions, and keep creating garbage. Anti-techers trying to silence people with actual background in software engineering, trying to discuss the actual topic, just because they don't personally like the topic, is just as annoying as the low quality vibecoded plugins.

So get rid of them both - blanket ban plugin threads to avoid people expecting subreddit mods to review code for AI garbage, and/or make a mega-thread for plugins - and start enforcing the rules against obvious spam, bashing and low effort comments just copy pasting anti-AI one liners in every thread.

xTiming-

Learn literally anything about software engineering, then feel free to make that stupid claim again. 😆

Your spam is worse than vibe coded AI crap from non-engineers.

edit: you didn't even have an opinion, you made sarcastic remarks about nothing in particular and hand waved towards other's opinions. Isn't stealing other's ideas what you people claim to care about when it comes to AI tools? Form an actual thought next time.

xTiming-

Dude hasn't graduated beyond using "nerd" as an insult, like some child who peaked being the benchwarmer in a single highschool sport... and on the OSRS subreddit no less.

Your explanation is completely wasted unfortunately.

xTiming-

Why even bother arguing or commenting when your comments show you don't have any idea what you're commenting on? You're only here being contrary because someone said "AI" somewhere.

You're asked basic questions and your response is to make sarcastic remarks. Genuinely why are you here? Could've saved all that spam for people discussing in good faith. 🤦

xTiming-

Social blindness isn't a congenital birth defect, and again, they didn't make fun of you.
