The reason they're not providing examples is because the post was written with AI. There are no examples. There's no substance. There's nothing.
Decaf_GT
It's because OP was written entirely with AI. There is a reason why it's so infuriating to read. It says basically nothing. I took it apart to explain why here.
Decaf_GT
No, it was not "written himself". It was written almost entirely by AI. I do this from time to time to reassure Redditors like you whose "bullshit alarms" are going off and you're trying to give the benefit of the doubt because you are kind-hearted, but in reality, you are 100% correct about your suspicons.
So, Sorry in advance, this is gonna be long.
So I’d respect, “I couldn’t phrase this well, so I used AI to clean it up.” Instead, he wants credit for all of it and wants you to think he's some super insightful writer.
So lets get stupid and take it line by line.
“There’s a specific kind of typographic laziness that has taken over grocery store shelves, and it’s been bothering me more than it probably should.”
“Specific,” followed by absolutely nothing specific, then adorable “more than it probably should” bit. Ooh, typography bothers me too much, guys, I’m such a quirky little designer. Translation: I had no fucking idea how to start this post, so the LLM added some filler bullshit and a fake personality trait.
One sentence in and we've already used way too many words to just say “I don’t like some packaging.”
“Everything is either squeezed into a geometric sans with tight tracking to signal premium, or blown out in some chunky retro revival that’s trying too hard to feel artisanal.”
“Everything is either X or Y,” because apparently every product in every grocery store uses one of two fonts. Wow, congrats on knowing “geometric sans” and “tight tracking,” very Super Duper Design Person tm of you. Without all the needless theatric bullshit language, all this says is “modern packaging uses modern fonts, retro packaging uses retro fonts.” Holy shit bro, what a groundbreaking discovery.
“The middle ground where type actually does [...] work”
Oh wow, here he is, the last designer alive who understands typography. Everyone else is making complete garbage, but this guy still remembers that words should communicate things. Thank fuck somebody finally said it!
One more sentence, still not saying anything of value at all.
“like guiding your eye through a hierarchy or communicating flavor and origin without screaming it”
Yes, dude, we know what typography does. This is basic shit being explained...to people who are reading a literal typography subreddit LOL.
And why is it screaming now? Because the LLM decided the sentence needed some theatrical bullshit at the end. Type can’t just communicate information, I guess, that would be too fucking normal.
“has basically evaporated from most midtier products”
“Basically,” “most,” and “midtier,” all three make the claim vague as fuck. Also, evaporated. Bro, calm the fuck down, you saw some labels you didn’t like. How did it evaporate? What the fuck do you mean, evaporated? Where’s the example?
“What got me thinking about this was redesigning some packaging for a small coffee roaster client.”
Oh good, generic personal anecdote has arrived. No product, no design problem, no client request, no decision, no... literally anything that happened. Nope. Just “I have clients, BTW.” He mentions the project so we’ll assume he knows what he’s talking about, then gives us fuckall about it.
“Going through the reference stage was almost demoralizing because so much of what’s on shelves right now is just noise.”
Almost demoralizing. JFC bro, you looked at coffee packaging, are you going to be okay? And “just noise” means fuck all. Where’s the actual meat? He supposedly reviewed enough packaging to suffer emotional damage from it, yet somehow refuses to give us even one example of bad packaging?
This kind of dramatic reaction is exactly how LLMs fill in bullshit where there’s fuckall substance. Because surprise, the person who wrote the prompt didn’t have any.
“The good stuff from the 70s and 80s had a kind of quiet confidence in its type choices that feels genuinely hard to find now.”
Oooo, quiet confidence. LLMs fucking love the word “quiet.” Quiet confidence. Quiet authority. Quiet sophistication. Put “quiet” before some vague concept and suddenly the sentence seems tasteful and refined. Name one of those package from the 70s or 80s, dude, literally one. No? Oh okay then, 30-40 years of design reduced to “the good stuff.” Ooh, so insightful.
“Constraints made the work better somehow”
What constraints, what work, what got better? Ah, who gives a shit, put it on its own line, remove the period, add “somehow,” and now it looks oh so profound and casual. Did we miss the entire explanation about what these constraints are, or are we all just supposed to know that?
“The thing I keep landing on is that packaging type has a different job than screen type or editorial type.”
Of course he keeps landing on things, LLMs can’t just state a fucking thought, every concept is a fucking airplane and needs to “land.” And what did he finally discover after all that landing? Packaging and editorial design have different requirements. Lmao, huge day for typography, somebody update the textbooks.
“It has to read at an angle, at a distance, under garbage fluorescent lighting, while someone is also half reading a nutrition label.”
Well, at least there’s finally one concrete point, 9 sentences into this godforsaken post. But what the fuck is this scenario? How is somebody reading the front and the nutrition panel at the same time, do they have four eyes? What exactly are you telling me about what makes this so difficult?
“That functional layer feels like it’s been deprioritized in favor of just looking good in a flat mockup.”
“The functional layer,” “deprioritized,” “in favor of,” FFS, just say who made the bad decision. “Has been deprioritized” removes whoever supposedly did it, and LLMs love that shit because passive voice sounds more theatrical. Just the usual post-game project-manager commentary that sounds sort of impressive but doesn’t say jack shit at all.
“Curious whether anyone here works in packaging regularly”
And there’s the engagement bait, of fucking course it ends with “curious.” There’s nothing this guy is fucking curious about. LLMs have been trained on so much fucking social-media and LinkedIn bullshit that they think every post needs to end by asking for engagement. He wants to sound smart and get replies. That’s it.
“whether the brief usually even addresses typographic legibility as a requirement, or if that just gets absorbed into visual direction.”
...you just worked on a packaging brief, you fucking tell us. Did yours address legibility or not? The client anecdote gave us nothing, and now, what...the comments are supposed to finish your post?
This whole thing is exhausting. It says one basic thing, then injects junk-food phrases everywhere because people who don’t know what the fuck good communication looks like think that junk food is filling.
And for fucks sake those missing periods aren’t fooling anybody. The first three paragraphs all omit the last period in the exact same place. This is the kind of stupid bullshit people instruct their LLMs to do, or they go back and remove the periods themselves because they think it makes the writing look more "organic" and "unpolished".
Except the irony is that human beings aren’t this consistently inconsistent. The exact same mistake, in the exact same place, three times. Congrats, you removed the periods. The post still says fuck all.
If you look at the rest of OP's posts, you'll find that every single self-post follows the same bullshit pattern. I'm sure it's intoxicating to do this. To dump your shit, your half-completed thoughts into an LLM and have it spit out what looks like polished prose. The problem is that people like OP will never fool people like you or me, because it turns out good writing isn't just hiding some punctuation or adding deliberate typos.
If you don't have anything to fucking say, no LLM is going to fix that.
Decaf_GT
What a stupid fucking response.
The point that I was making was that I have eyes, and I can see exactly how the LLM got to the answer it got to. There's no assuming bullshit going on.
But sure. Whatever the fuck that was supposed to be. Good job, I guess.
Decaf_GT
Jesus fucking christ, do you have a hook setup with Claude to add as many em-dashes as possible?
I couldn't even make it through the description of this post without deciding I'm not interested in your slop.
Decaf_GT
:'( But I thought you were curious! I'm so sad now.
Decaf_GT
Or...alternatively, given that I fully understand how LLMs work, I can see the favicons for what sites were searched for each query so I can tell exactly why the model answered the way it did. The model isn't assuming anything, it's going by what it's finding when it searches.
Decaf_GT
"Just curious, thanks" after a passive-aggressive pissing post...now that is pathetic. It doesn't look realistic, it doesn't look sincere, it's not convincing, it's off-putting.
I'd respond to the rest of your post but generally I don't respond to disingenuous bullshit bait where I have zero doubts as to whether the other side is open to discussion.
Just go away and back to your safe zones. Don't worry, since this trend is only headed in one direction, the world doesn't need you to be on this dwindling and dying movement of a subreddit, since it'll all be gone soon enough, right?
Wipe your feet on the way out please, your insecurity and self-doubt is leaking all over the floor.
Decaf_GT
Well, this was a fucking awful take.
Decaf_GT
Definitely... but in this subreddit? The way it's posted it's just another user thinking they're posting a "gotcha" response from an LLM.
There's plenty of discourse to be had on the underlying notion, but this subreddit is about Gemini as an LLM, so...it's better to educate the OP on why this is happening as opposed to getting baited into having a discussion about it.
The fact that this post has so many upvotes is disappointing as hell.
Decaf_GT
This thread is the perfect example of why "giveaways" end up inviting low-quality content.
There is almost zero valuable feedback in this thread, just people making stuff up or using LLMs to post slop so that they "qualify" for a free key.
Decaf_GT
Uh...yes? It's trained on societal discourse. Surprise, society is full of contradictions, so therefore AI is also full of contradictions.
Is this your first day on the internet, or...?
Decaf_GT
I'd tell you to actually try to use it yourself but I imagine the name is "too cute" for you to consider trying it seriously.
Decaf_GT
I take it back.
A turnip indeed would probably be able think more critically than you. Good luck with your vibecoded app :)
Decaf_GT
It's the smugness and arrogance, combined with the general (seeming) lack of giving a shit about their users that all combine to make this sour taste of Anthropic.
They got utterly high off of the success of their coding models and thought that that's all they needed to propel themselves into the moral high ground of AI, yet honestly, Dario needs to shut the fuck up and focus on running his fucking company.
He needs to stop doing interviews, talking about the 10% or 20% of jobs that are going to get impacted by AI, or how incredibly dangerous models are, or giving deprecated versions of models their own blog, because he somehow thinks these models are alive and have their own feelings. For one, I am very happy to see Anthropic lowered by a couple of pegs.
This level of arrogance only lasts for so long.
And none of this matters with how fast AI moves. OpenAI may be a darling right now, but next week they could fuck up and be right where Anthropic is. And God knows what Google is up to. They may come out of nowhere too.
The best thing that you can do is just extract whatever value out of the company that can currently meet your needs and respects you as a user, and don't bother getting further attached than that, because they're out to extract as much value from you as they can.
Decaf_GT
Blame and consequences are not the same thing. Don't get confused by that and don't dilute the argument.
Decaf_GT
People complain you can't hold AI accountable, but AI doesn't do anything on its own. Someone has to prompt it. It might hallucinate and do something that the initiator did not intend, but there's still a human at the start of that chain. For some reason, way too many people act like current AI is Jarvis from Iron Man, practically sentient and making its own decisions.
Absolutely no one in this entire story is going to claim that somehow OpenAI or Anthropic are not responsible for what the models did. It's obvious that they are.
I got into an argument with someone who asked what happens if a CEO uses AI to write a public post and the AI messes up. They treated "who's at fault?" like a real gotcha, as if the CEO is somehow off the hook.
If you use a tool to do a job, that tool works for you. It doesn't matter how many layers of abstraction you wrap around it or how much you talk about self-learning. Everything still traces back to a single origin.
That's also why that IBM quote about holding machines accountable annoys me so much. It's stupid. Accountability belongs to the person who initiated the command, chose to use the tool, wrote the rules, shipped the final output, or (and this is the important one) some combination of all of them.
Deterministic software breaks all the time, and when it does, we still blame a human. Whether legal or societal justice actually holds the responsible party to task is a separate topic, but a person is still responsible.
It's really not that complicated. We just want to make it obscure and confusing for some reason.
Decaf_GT
fancy names and all but it sounded too cute to be real options
Thank you for helping to prop up the AI business market, your ignorance actually is what's giving them money.
"Sounding too cute to be real options". Are you even for real, dude?
What a crappy take.
Decaf_GT
There are so many people that just use Sol and don't think that Luna and Terra are worth using at all because they're afraid of missing out. And I get it, especially those paying $200 a month, are thinking that they want the most out of their subscription.
But seriously, I've been running Luna for hours and hours on end for menial tasks, and it's barely touching my limits now, and it's executing everything that I care about as long as Luna is following plans and specific instructions set by Terra or Sol. It's phenomenal.
Decaf_GT
...perhaps if you've got the critical thinking of a turnip, I imagine this concept is difficult for you to understand.
Assuming you're one of those people that things that an AI is only for coding and ntohing else (which I don't agree with, but...fine, for the sake of argument), surely you understand that "personality" here bleeds into every facet of what an AI assistant does, right?
A desire to try to account for edge cases that weren't mentioned or attempt to proactively add fallbacks where they're not needed because it's trying to be "helpful" is exactly what causes bloated slop code, irritating AF documentation, obtuse and unhelpful code comments, and general poor quality code.
Maybe don't mistake your lack of experience with AI for "hurr durr stop treating it like a bff" if you don't know what you're talking about?
Just a thought :)
Decaf_GT
Maybe don't speak for others.
There are plenty of us that use AI all the time to perform file management work. If you're know what you're doing, you can build powerful deterministic organization.
For instance, if you combine Claude Code/Codex with something like Hazelnut, you could easily use simple english language instructions to create powerful fully-tested and dry-run ready organization rulesets: https://github.com/ricardodantas/hazelnut
But then again, your account is two days old and you'v ealready posted an app of your own in /r/vibecoding ...so not sure hat your deal is.

Seriously, I don’t know what the actual hell Anthropic did to Opus 5, but it sounds like GPT-5.3 at its most tryhard, full-on /r/iamverysmart. I can’t explain it any other way.
Ask 5.6 a simple question about RSI and it defines it, gives an example, explains the distinction between recursive and non-recursive, mentions that RSI can also mean something else, and then it just stops.
Ask Opus 5 the same thing and it has to yap and yap. I never asked how much weight RSI carries in safety discourse, what the skeptical case is, or how effective it would be. And this is after giving Claude a ton of prompt guidance telling it not to yammer on so much.
It’s not much better in the CLI or alternate harnesses. I’ve used Pi with an Anthropic API key and found myself exhausted by the verbosity. Meanwhile, 5.6 Sol, whether through a subscription or the API, has no problem following my “stfu and only do what I tell you” prompt.
It’s insane. I’m so happy with 5.6 right now. When I want to learn something, I’m going to 5.6, and I never thought I’d say that.
I’ve legitimately gotten so fed up that I’ve copied a response from Opus into Codex and told it to make the thing stop sounding like theatrical nonsense.

My edit clearly says the Lentils guy is not wrong. It's that he jumped the gun, and that we need to wait before drawing conclusions, because as Tibo said, it was an experiment to test out the problems that people were experiencing and it was an experiment that was promptly reverted. Experiments aren't long-term changes, but the OP of this thread and every person in lentil's thread couldn't be assed to wait just a little longer for the guy who was providing updates every 3-4 hours like clockwork on a Sunday to explain what's going on...the same guy who has yet to turn his back on users or let concerns about excessive usage fall on deaf ears.
Which is the entire fucking reason this is even happening, because Tibo took it seriously.
This place is just impossible. You people just want to whine whine whine all the time.
It is real. It's just the same screenshot that's been floating around for a long time after the one person who got an offer shared it. And the reason they shared it was to showcase the line that says this role may not exist in 12 months.
I don't remember the exact discussion behind that line, but that's what this screenshot comes from.
