It's sort of like pointing out the oddities with religion. When you get to an unexplainable or an event that goes against what you believe, you fall back to "the Lord works in mysterious ways"

I can only imagine the cop pulling them over for anything. Definitely have to reach deep down inside for that "whoosah" before walking up to the drivers door.

Designer_Solid4271

I've often wondered about charter schools and how they played into this.

Having been in IT my entire 36 year career, the entire process is about evolving with things that are new. IMHO my recommendation is to jump in with both feet and make yourself as valuable as possible. If it works out then awesome, if not you definitely know new information to carry forward.

And aboslutely gorgeous

Agreed - but now you're talking about a battery that can sustain 3 hours of functional life (or at least 2 1/2). Daytime VFR minimums are 30 minutes, and a basic flight lesson is about 1.0 hrs. The EV trainers that are out there and available are all around 1.0hrs total time right now, so that's barely a 30 minute flight. Granted you gain some advantages by now having to have the prop spinning the whole time you're waiting in the queue to take off in a busy airspace, but that won't offset the total airtime.

Even with a 1 hr battery (30 min of flight) the charging infrastructure isn't there yet. I'm aware of one airport in our area with charging capabilities, but it isn't a level 3 charger. So now you're back to hours of charging before you can fly again. That's time/money the airplane isn't spending in the air. Most of the EV trainer airplanes solution to this is "just buy two"... so - now you're talking about having to spend twice as much money getting aircraft for half the useful time.

I'll be one of the first people to get in line to buy/build one of these when they become viable. But I am not holding my breath.

IMHO we're decades away from a complete electric replacement for small GA electric aircraft. Battery density just isn't there. A metric to use (it's just one, but it's valid) the airplane I built was also used an electric platform at a university in Europe. My plane with a traditional ICE can go for over 5 hours in the air with reserves. The same airplane in an electric format has an endurance of 1 hour. Given battery density is improving at about 3% per year, it's going to take a long time before both battery density and the weight issues with batteries are addressed enough for a complete replacement.

I'd love to go EV in the sky but those two items (energy density and weight) are going to take a long time to come up to par. The costs go way down that way as well.

The aircraft in the picture for this article is a purpose built aircraft and is well outside the reach of most of the folks who fly GA. It doesn't scale up to carry more people due to the increased need of energy and the weight it carries. Plus the cost of the aircraft - I have no idea what it is running. I haven't looked very hard, but it's got to be several million. If it indeed is several million, then it's on par with a corporate jet which will out perform in speed, distance and duration.

yup

And this is why we switched from Sam's to Costco 18 years ago.

Designer_Solid4271

He can't buy me, and that's coming from someone who believes everyone has a price.

Designer_Solid4271

And I bet you'll be in your wife while you're in Denver... which is a beautiful inception. 😄

Designer_Solid4271

I’ll put this to the test.

Designer_Solid4271

Meh. Here? I mean come on. It moved in, repainted most of the rooms and invited the rest of the family to move in with them.

Designer_Solid4271

Agreed. It’s slowed down and picked up a number of times over the years. Even with an AI applied engineering effort it will slow down again. But for now someone poured gas on that fire.

Designer_Solid4271

The nice part is it tells me straight away who I don’t want to open a conversation up with.

Designer_Solid4271

You realize that everything after “read” in your opening question is pretty much redundant?

Designer_Solid4271

Heh. All the tools I run show 95% on up and I look at them and don’t believe them. Yes yes I understand the math, it just doesn’t make sense that I’m there because it doesn’t look like enough. 🤷‍♂️

Designer_Solid4271

I love the fact that he had no idea about the religious question Kennedy faced. I remember having conversations about that exact topic growing up from/with my parents. It confused me so much that it would even be an issue.

Designer_Solid4271

Agreed. Moores law seems so quaint now.

Designer_Solid4271

That’s an absolutely magnificent shot.

Designer_Solid4271

Some of these AI generated reports need a TL;DR.

Designer_Solid4271

Funny. I was just listening to her this afternoon.

Designer_Solid4271

Sometimes I feel like Steve Jobs would make and sell stuff like this just to win a bet that we’d buy anything. And he was generally right.

I’ve lived in Colorado nearly my entire life. Like yourself I look around for an optimal place to live with the consideration towards what the climate will be like. I gotta say Colorado has it pretty good. Things to consider:
- We technically are a high desert and water always has and will continue to be an issue.
- the winds in recent years has become super fierce and when you add in fires due to the dry climate, they can be devastating.
- the plains don’t get a lot of snow and unless something in the weather patterns shift, the mountains aren’t getting as much either.
- we get maybe two to three weeks of brutal cold a year vs a few months of very hot weather. Not anywhere close to Phoenix levels.
- when it does snow a lot it can be feet of snow. And that can literally be anywhere in the state, but it won’t be the whole state. Generally those types of storms are localized.

Of course that’s assuming you want to remain in the USA. Moving abroad has different regions with different concerns.

I refer to this episode quite frequently. The lesson around regret and how it shapes who you are now is excellent.
