I think buyers have a set budget and dropping the price will increase the pool of buyers you have access to, price history is secondary.

For example I knew my budget was between 200k to 300k , and within that budget I selected the best house I found. Even a unicorn once in a lifetime superhouse at 350k would not have attracted me at all.
