that's evil. i love it x99.

VforVegetables

y'all legends and i don't care what some weird angry people tell you 💜

VforVegetables

dropped the date. it was 2016 or so. ten years ago. the money could've easily been spent just a few years after that. so still a long time ago.

VforVegetables

i really want to know why this mistake started appearing only a few years ago and became so widespread.

it doesn't even make sense. "have been", "could have been". alright. "could of" - of what? of whom? the "could" isn't an object or property belonging to someone. it looks so weird.

VforVegetables

right. time restrictions - however lax - are neither new nor desirable.

VforVegetables

some people are just built different 🤷‍♀️ they'll redo the same 3 minutes part of the game a 1000 times and will be happy. that's mostly the kind of players that stuck around years and decades past Diablo 2's initial release. naturally, it will be the same with any other such game. naturally, they will want efficient farming above all else.

but also open world can be dull, annoying or pointless in so many ways.

i'd say given the choice i'll prefer open world for the sake of exploration, but if it's fake exploration that's just about ticking checkboxes - i'll pass. but i've already passed D4 and i don't believe i'll be interested in D5 either. i'm not interested in this sort of theme park game design and i'm sure Blizzard will stick with it.

thanks for copying the text here, coz now it's gone from the site :(

the article is gone D:

they'd probably need to add more decorations to the scene to make it look acceptable if the camera were to move around, and that'd probably ruin the performance further. i wish they'd have someone to improve it. so many stellar additions to the entire game year after year, but the engine doesn't seemingly get any attention at all. somehow something like Zephon runs like 4 times better, even with armies filling half the cells on screen. there's one mod that mentions how the game always renders one scene over the other even tho you don't see it, i wouldn't be surprised if the game renders everything else at all times as well.

VforVegetables

there's a mod to cut out large part of this and other menus to massively improve performance - Performance Stripper.

VforVegetables

you'll see one close if you have an unfinished game, i think? and having dragons also zooms out the camera a bit? or maybe some patch changed camera distance to make room for dragons? i too feel like the view was a bit closer sometimes.

VforVegetables

nice, finally! and somehow we don't have people in this thread screaming that this will ruin the game for everyone - like in certain similar thread. doubly nice.

VforVegetables

a shame the only way to replay that original experience now is limited to old consoles and physical disks.

VforVegetables

with this many "classes", i suspect those will be presented more like developed characters than archetypes, with the idea that you'll be buying more characters regularly.

VforVegetables

yeah, zero possibility anyone played 90% of games. and if they did - they wouldn't have been saying that the recent games are all "rubbish, repetitive".

VforVegetables

i'm saying people are freaking over an option, seemingly because it doesn't cater to them specifically. and that they shouldn't - because having more options in a genre with so few is good.

VforVegetables

it seems there's two vastly different crowds: one that is seasoned action-RTS players that expects an RTS to both allow and require performing multiple instantaneous and precise actions, and another that just wants a commander simulator game in their favorite universe that isn't too hard to play.

i'll just say i hope the developers know which crowd they're aiming for, coz it doesn't look like attempting to please both ever worked. and it's not like less fast-paced games have no room for existence: look at truck, tractor, airplane games compared to typical racing games; look at milsim games compared to typical arena shooters; look at farming games compared to hack-and-slash games.

there's a niche to fill, but a game must know what it tries to do.

VforVegetables

very much agree. gamepad is comfy and what overwhelming majority of RTS lacks is comfy controls. having to figure out which of the 30 keys scattered across the entire keyboard you actually need is not it.

focusing on PvP isn't the way either, as numerous shut-down PvP-focused and PvP-only games have shown. and let's be honest, the only Starcraft killer out there will only ever be Starcraft itself - just how the only WoW killer can only be WoW itself, - so please stop trying to make hypercompetitively built strategy games.

and do realize that to be a long-time SC player is to be proficient at the game far, far above average, so don't let their expertise convince you that an average player could be able to - or should want to - handle events on several screens within seconds with pinpoint precision. after all, experts in anything wildly overestimate the average person's familiarity with their field: https://xkcd.com/2501/

VforVegetables

"Titan Reddit!" - titan apparently 🧐

VforVegetables

how so? maybe when you pick the most dedicated players who also happen to stream, but otherwise there are uncountable streamers who play like your average person.

VforVegetables

very nice!

VforVegetables

the sub looks like you can mount a gigantic scope on it 😁

If there's comfort meter, it needs to be like every other good game system: it should offer choices and room for skill expression.

It shouldn't be just a mobile game stamina bar that dictates how much fun you're allowed to have. There needs to be more than one situation that drains it and more than one resource that refills it, some modifiers to how strong each option is, some external unpredictable factors that prevents the system from being pure math - like random events, cravings, newly found phobias, specific kind of NPC rudeness dropping PC's comfort further than usual when it's already low etc. There shouldn't be anything that resembles forced downtime, there should always be something that could be done.

Player shouldn't be forced to walk slowly - they should be allowed to choose so as an alternative to more actively doing something to refill the happiness meter faster. And maybe have some optional activities for when the character does move slowly: spotting small items, eavesdropping, handmaking some simple supplies, just going on autopilot while the player interacts with some menu.

one of the Torchlight games (3rd one?) tried and abandoned (along with like 60% of other concepts) a thing where you basically have separate progression for each part of the world.

basically, each area has an elemental theme, so if you power up in one area and go to another, most of your protection and some of your power won't be applicable there.

VforVegetables

nice sprites! dunno how custom the models are, but they look just right.

there's also OpenRA RA Generals Alpha mod, dunno how finished it is, but you can do a lot of what's expected in Generals game - like click on an overlord and pick its individual upgrade. lacks on the sprites front tho - a lot of things are repurposed or kitbashed RA/CNC graphics.
