I totally get how you’re feeling. My in-laws were the same way when my kids were growing up. They visited each of my kids 2 weeks after they were born and that was the extent of the visits. We’d see them over the holidays and then at each of the kids bday parties and that’s basically it. My MIL would take pics to put around her house and to show church friends but basically had no contact with them. My kids are now 25,23 and 17. At my FIL’s funeral last month my MIL set the funeral home up with a slide show of old pics and had framed pics set up as well. Totally all for show so extended family and their church friends could look at the pics to see “what wonderful grandparents they are”. And as we were leaving dinner after the funeral my MIL said to my kids,”you can visit me you know”. I had to bite my tongue because why would they visit? She never visited them when they were growing up. Never texted or called. It would be so awkward and uncomfortable for them. Long story short, I understand how you feel. I’d invite them and see if anything changes. In my case my kids clearly preferred my parents because they spent a lot of time with them so I loved seeing my kids go up to my parents on their own. And if my MIL or one of my SIL’s tried they’d get scared and come and hide behind me haha!

My daughter graduates in 2021 and loved UD. Her favorite spot to walk through was the green and Main St going through campus was a big plus for her, too. Very walkable. And she had off campus apartments her junior and senior years and she was able to walk to campus.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Much too young. My doodle is 6 and I worry when I read about all the doodles getting cancer.

I have a border collie mix that started having seizures a year ago. I’m curious why the vet thinks that’s the cause. I’ve heard about cardiac issues causing sudden death but not a seizure. When my dog has a seizure she’s foaming at the mouth and sometimes has a potty accident and she’s soaking wet from the drool. Any signs like that in the crate?

NTA. I’m stressed out when I see my MIL 3 times a year let alone 3x a week! I’m 50 so in my opinion she’s not old. She can manage to cook for herself. Also, many local Senior centers offer really cheap lunches for residents. It’s a great way to meet people, too. Someone mentioned Meals on Wheels which is a great idea. I’m amazed you’ve put up with her for this long because if my MIL ever spoke to me like that about my cooking she would no longer be welcome in my house.

I’m a mom of adult kids and I always give my kids a Valentine card every year.

I love it. I always have my groomer do a shorter cut on my dood. It’s much easier to take care of and he isn’t bothered by cold in winter and keeps him cooler over the summer.

Not a good idea in my opinion.

Crazy thing is I think my MIL truly feels she’s a good grandmother. She had all kinds of picture collages and a slide show at my FIL’s funeral and all the pics of my kids were taken at my house during their bday parties or during a holiday when we visited them. Making it seem like visits were often when it was 2-3 times a year.

He’s still legally married and lives with his parents? You can do better. He’s 40 and will not change.

Make sure the puppy is getting enforced naps in a crate or puppy playpen. An over tired puppy is very bitey. You have to keep repeating and repeating this….when the puppy bites say “no bite” and give a toy and praise. When he drops the toy to bite again repeat, “no bite” and give a toy. If it keeps happening put the puppy down for a nap. Makes a big difference. Also put peanut butter or squeeze cheese in a Kong and freeze it for longer entertainment. My dogs also loved when I put an empty disposable water bottle and tied it in an old, long sock. They loved the crinkling sound and kept them busy when they were puppies. I used to keep toys up high in different rooms in my house so when the puppies ran towards any of us we’d grab a toy fast so they could take that and not nip at us.

Yep I understand. Sounds like a plan! Good luck.

Looks full BC to me

I’m not an expert but I would keep dogs A and B separate. Dog A is elderly and deserves a calm environment to live out his life. Many years ago I had 2 male dogs. We ended up re-homing the puppy because they didn’t get along and the puppy was larger than our dog A and didn’t want any of them getting hurt.

I totally agree.

Resource guarding. Next time grab something really high value and offer a trade.

1 is cute with the white tip on the tail and little bit of white on the head….but like others said, going by personality is best. Our doodle chose us.

NTA. Showing up unannounced isn’t cool at all. And bedrooms should be off limits. I used to lock bedroom doors when I had family over because there was no need for anyone to go in a bedroom.

I’d try using white vinegar to clean up the smell. In my opinion it works much better than Natures Miracle. My dog used to run into my dining room to pee/poop so I put white vinegar in a spray bottle and would periodically spray the area because my dog hated the smell and it stopped him from going in there.

I have a soft spot for the boys so I’d go with the first one.

NTA. Keeping up family relationships is a two way street. She can travel to you as well.

jmsst50

Same with mine. Non stop.

jmsst50

Yes to both! Yesterday my dood jumped on the couch so my husband could give him a chest rub and he burped right in my husband’s face haha.

Just seems like OP would enjoy city life based on her love of going to concerts often. My daughter loved UD but she was happy just staying on campus. She only went to Philly maybe once a year.

And in my case the MIL did it to herself. My oldest 2 kids were the first grandkids on both sides of the family. My side was very excited from the start, spoiling the kids and wanting to see them but not over stepping at all. My in laws on the other hand made it seem like they were doting grandparents but only saw my kids at their bday parties and holidays. My kids are now 25,23 and 17. We were at my FIL’s funeral recently and we went to say goodbye to my MIL after dinner and the only thing she said to the kids was,”you can visit me you know”. I had to bite my tongue because it wasn’t the time or place for a response but I wanted to say, why would they visit you? You never visited them growing up so why on earth do you think they’d be comfortable seeing you now? That ship has sailed.
