You see in your second line you kind of seconded what Jung is actually saying: (that ‘if a man can’t respect that I want nothing to do with him’). This is the paradox. This is the chicken and egg. Unfortunately the only way to actually absorb this is to have a deeply traumatic experience which shakes the psyche to its core. Thats why the world is as it is.

What an amazing post. Thankyou for sharing. As a lifelong Jungian, I have struggled with relationships just as much as Jung himself. Jung used to say “Women are magical and that is why I am afraid of women.” Men are from mars and women are from venus, makes sense if you look at it from a psycho-analytical pov. I think to have this perspective one needs to be severely unhinged/traumatised where one’s ego-self axis is not in equilibrium. Its a gift and a curse at the same time. The entire world just promotes gender wars today specifically on reddit/instagram which is testament to the fact that men and women are so different in their ways that they will always misunderstand each other. Some people along the history of ours, have had some childhood experiences (Jung or Nietzsche for eg) to document their subjective worldview on this in an objective fashion. Its tragic at the same time.

Ted isn’t being pushy. I have been in ted’s shoes. I watched the show back in school in my early teens. I am a man in my late twenties now and now I know why ted is ted. Because sometimes lot of our internal forces are not in our control. Its a beautiful love story of and the way it ends is also a reminder with the song: “remember what you fight for”, to say that ted never gave up. I think HIMYM is an ode to all hopeless romantics to never give up on love regardless of whatever childhood tragedy made you disbelieve in that thing
