Need help on a KitchenAid combo oven (Model: KOCE900HSS02) Error Code: error code f6e9: oven acu 2 - lost communication contact

Need help on a KitchenAid combo oven (Model: KOCE900HSS02). Initial complaint from the customer was that the display panel was completely dead. It had happened before so they just reset at the breaker and that fixed it, but that wasn't working this time. We replaced the control board (part W11294388) to find out the console was also bad, so we replaced that (W11396218). The customer was advised of this possibility and was willing to take the risk. So now the display does come on BUT it's not working. Customer can't use either the microwave or the lower oven. It just has the error message: error code f6e9: oven acu 2 - lost communication contact. We tried re-programming by searching for the correct model model thinking it just couldn't "find" the microwave bc it was searching for the second oven. But still not working.

I included the pics of what's on the display screen after replacing the board and the console. Do we need to replace the other board, the one on the side? Or are we missing something in how to reprogram the new board and console to connect to each other?

I think there's a service bulletin on this but we can't find it. Any help would be appreciated!

your looking for this.

specifically:

“When the console was installed, it should have asked for a model selection. To change the model selection, press cancel, cancel, then start, go to the system information and press ok. From there, scroll to model number and press ok. Scroll to the correct model number and then press select.”

I would love to know if this is your issue!

Thanks for this. We will keep you posted if this works of not.

I’d be curious to read other responses.

But f6e9 is not a code for this oven(tech sheets + tech manual). If you hadn’t posted this pic I’d say you read it wrong. That would lead me to think you have the wrong board. Also why it’s searching for an oven that doesn’t exist. Or you put the wrong program code in when prompted.

I wonder if maybe you part searched for version 20 instead of 02

It's really stumped us, that's for sure. The boards ordered were based on part schematics for that model. We checked on Marcone, Reliable, Sears and then KitchenAid to confirm once we got this error. There is another board that the KA site refers to as an "expansion board" so we're wondering if we also need this board.

Have you seen any service bulletins on this error?

there are codes that aren't listed in the tech sheet or manual. Whirlpool's techline would be the only resource in this scenario.

4 weeks ago I had the same problem. Ordered the control panel for the micro/oven combo and the new display thinks it has an upper oven not microwave. Whirlpool tech line told me to reorder the part because the parts must’ve got swapped accidentally. I didn’t go back because the customer got impatient and canceled, so I don’t know if it resolved. But looks like they’re having more than an isolated incident with this issue.

WP tech line isn't what it used to be, that's for sure.
