[Meta] What are your favorite Xposed Modules?

It's been a while since the last big thread about this. Since then, Xposed has been updated to 5.0 (5.1 with the unofficial version). Many modules have been created, updated, or abandoned.

So let's hear what your favorite Xposed Modules are. (And if it's "GravityBox", please list at least one other module.)

  • Unicon Beta - Lets me apply icon sets system-wide, rather than just in the launcher. The beta adds the ability to customize individual icons.
  • xSuite - Lets me change the name of an app system-wide.
  • ResFlux - lets me edit drawables and string values within any app.

Using the combination of these three apps, I can use any third-party app I want for a certain function, and still have it look like I'm using the stock app. For example, I use Business Calendar Pro as my calendar app, but it the icon is set by the icon pack, and the app name is simply "Calendar". QuickPic is simply "Gallery", Tinfoil for Facebook is simply "Facebook". It's nice and clean that way.

EDIT: In case anyone wants to know what other modules I use, here's my list:

  • AcDisplay (for lockscreen)
  • Amplify
  • Blurred System UI
  • CustomShare
  • Flat Style Custom Bars
  • Flat Style Keyboard
  • Greenify (for boost mode)
  • MinMinGuard
  • Pictures2SD
  • Shortcut in App Info
  • Smart Alarm Icon
  • Smooth System Progress Bars
  • Xposed GEL Settings
  • Xposed Preferences Injector
  • YouTube AdAway

Thanks! I don't know why having non-stock apps bothers me so much, but it always has.

A few of my favorite modules are ButteredToast, Complete Action Plus, Play Store Changelog, and Xposed Media Scanner Optimizer.

ButteredToast adds the app name to toast messages. Sometimes toast messages will appear at random times so this helps me know what app they come from.

Complete Action Plus lets me tidy up the share menu. No use in having it filled with apps that I don't share to.

Play Store Changelog lets me see an app's complete changelog automatically and I also use it to go straight to My Apps. I am much more likely to open the Play Store to check for app updates than search for apps.

And lastly there is Xposed Media Scanner Optimizer. It supposed to make the media scanner faster. I haven't thoroughly tweaked the settings though.

Thank you for recommending the hangouts one!

accik

Snapprefs haven't been updated though :(

Thanks for saying this. I see these random names but they mean nothing. I really appreciate the people that take time to write out what it does.

Lev_Myshkin

App ops. Use it to edit app permissions

godly967

Recently, MonsterUI.

Being stuck on KitKat (thanks Verizon), this takes care of all my aesthetic jealousy

Edit: XDA thread for people with questions and stuff

najodleglejszy

I've just tried it and I've got a noob question: why aren't we advertising it? why isn't it in its own sticky thread, and in the sidebar, and on the Times Square billboards?

sfcpfc

If you have Xposed, chances are that you have an unlocked bootloader. Then why not flash a custom Lollipop ROM?

raptor102888

Haha no. It's much easier to find a root exploit on a bootloader-locked device than it is to find an exploit to actually unlock the bootloader.

sfcpfc

Huh, I guess that having a Nexus doesn't give me much knowledge about other devices. What exploits are you talking about? For me, unlocking the bootloader wasn't difficult at all, the only downside is that I'd lose my data. Are other devices that don't actually want you to unlock it?

Zouden

Nexus devices use "fastboot oem unlock" and it's done. For most other phones you need an unlock key which you can request from the manufacturer's website. They won't give you the key if you're on certain carriers like Verizon.

sfcpfc

What the fuck? Is that even legal?

Zouden

Yeah it's just part of the deal carriers make with the manufacturer.

Honestly I'm surprised that this is news to you... the difficulties of unlocking bootloaders on phones from US carriers is a pretty common complaint here and it's been going on for years.

sfcpfc

Welp, I'm not from the US and never happened to read something related to this topic. In Spain that would most like be illegal.

GeneralEchidna

I much rather have MonsterUI and tethered root than Lollipop. I don't think I'll ever update.

alvareo-

Have you tried Lollipop?

PickUpLimes

Holy smokes, my phone is too old for Lollipop to run smoothly, but MonsterUI has everything from Lollipop that I've been wanting without having to install a new ROM. +1

DerTeufelshund

Thanks SO much for bringing this into my life. I'm stuck with consumer cellular and they won't update my moto g to 5.0 I guess.

[deleted]

Sorry I have never heard of MonsterUI. Can somebody describe what it is for me?

brinmb

Does it work with GravityBox?

amanitus

I just started using it. Do you know how to make check boxes a different color? That orange is getting old.

godly967

Should be the secondary color

ghatroad

Does MonsterUI work on Oneplus One?

godly967

Im not sure. I have a note 2 and it works perfectly except for the lollipop style notification bar feature. My best advice would be check the XDA forum

Probably doesn't work with sense roms though right?

Flat Style Keyboard is a amazing! I really can't use google keyboard without it. It even looks nicer than the standard material version.

MinMinGuard is a great ad blocker that takes out the ad, but also fills in the gap.

XInstaller is not a common module. It lets you make changes to package installer. You should NOT keep auto install on at all times. However is it good for checking version changes.

YouTube Background Playback is an amazing module to make playing videos in the background easy

Battery Shutdown Manager is your best friend if you need an extra minute to find a charger. The module manages to delay the shutdown process that android runs when you hit zero percent.

something i noticed missing from that list is the Power Nap module. It brings sony's stamina mode to your device. if you want a simpler way to control wakelocks and find amplify overwhelming, power nap is for you.

persona_dos

Would you say MinMinGuard is better than adaway?

sfiodsh

It blocks ads in apps better than adaway. I sill use adaway with minmin

haste75

I can only find Youtube Adaway, not AdAway on it's own. Is it within the Xposed download section?

waylaidwanderer

AdAway is a root app and not an Xposed module.

haste75

Thanks.

anonymous-bot

MinMinGuard is good for in-app ads. You'll still want to keep AdAway to block website ads though.

maxamillion17

Does it block youtube ads?

anonymous-bot

I would suggest the separate YouTube AdAway module.

dewhashish

add this host http://adblock.mahakala.is/

i did and dont get ads in youtube

I found OGYouTube with its xposed module works a whole lot better than the background module. I just backed up and delete YouTube and then replaced it with og. Works flawlessly

igacek

Physical Button Music Control. Simple, and allows me to use the buttons on my phone (volume, power, etc) to change media. One press then hold to pause, just hold to skip to next track, etc.

Bomberlt

For those who don't have Xposed or even Root I can recomend Noyze app.

PianoCube93

Noyze is removed from the play store though, so you'll have to find the apk somewhere else or use SoundHUD (which is the same thing, just renamed, with material design and minus the things that had Noyze taken down).

BullDoza

I use it daily with PocketCasts, can't live without it.

aviator104

Useful addition.

Can't get it to work when Moon+ Reader Pro is open. Seems Moon+ overrides PBMC.

Setup I am using :

  • Single press > Volume up
  • Double press > Volume down
  • Triple > Play / Pause
  • Hold > Simulate Other button (Power)
  • Single press and hold > Next media

Greenify - Hibernate apps

Amplify - Disable services

Lolistat - Tint the status bar and navigation bar for apps that have not updated to include the tint. I find this works better than Flat Style Bars

SwipeBack2 - Swipe either the right or left side of the screen to go back in any app. This is developed by the same guy who made Lolistat so it works beautifully with it.

MinMinGuard - Remove ads from apps

quicksilver101

Regarding swipeback2, how is this any different in functionality to the back button?

dextersgenius

It adds the previous screen as a layer behind your current screen, so when you're swiping you can actually see what you're going back to - kinda like the Reddit Sync app. It allows you to decide whether or not you want to go back, and lets you keep context. It's hard to explain but once you start swiping to go back, you wouldn't want to use the back button at all - swiping seems so much more natural. This is also awesome if have a large device, you don't have to reach towards the bottom of your screen all the time.

Which apps do you change the dpi for?

quicksilver101

Not OP, but I change the dpi of chatting apps mostly on my OnePlus One. Mainly whatsapp, hangouts, groupme and QQinternational. Having a different dpi gives more texts in view and since its a big screen, I'm still comfortable with the size. My system wide dpi is 440, with these apps at 420. Just for scale. I think the stock dpi is 480 on cm12

[deleted]

That module didn't work on Android 5.1 :(

Awkward_Squidward

I don't know if this would be the place to ask, but... What is Xposed all about? To me it sounds like the Cydia equivalent for Android.. is that the case? If so, could I install it on my 2nd Gen Moto G with Lollipop 5.0.2?

[deleted]

[deleted]

Awkward_Squidward

Alright, sounds like something I'd like to get into, but I'll rather wait until it is completely stable.. Thanks!

jassalmithu

Yes it's still alpha but it will work fine especially on your phone since it's near stock. If you already have root and custome recovery, head over here and flash xposed and install apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811

power nap - get sony's endurance mode!

Imgur album

dev's introduction post

XDA thread

Power Nap stops all services/wakelocks/alarms from waking your phone, with the exclusion of apps you whitelist. That means you can keep Wi-Fi or data on, and still get notifications for the apps that matter, but everything else will be unable to wake your phone! Users have reported as low as 0.2%/hour battery drain during stand-by while using Power Nap!

SuminderJi

Whats your experience with it? Does it really work?

[deleted]

[deleted]

jassalmithu

I use the same module on my Z3, some kind soul compiled it for lollipop too on XDA

FayeBlooded

Blurred System UI just makes my phone feel like it's worth $100 more than I paid for it.

OmnipotentBastard
  • CustomShare - Customize the share menu.
  • XToast - Customize toast notifications
  • YouTube Background Playback
  • YourTube - Change what is the default page in the YouTube app
  • Keyboard Tinter - Add some colours to Google's keyboard.
LightOfValkyrie

Just tried out YourTube and Keyboard Tinter and I'm really enjoying both.

nekr0

Are people here running stock android rooted with xposed? I'm considering going back to stock from P.A. and run Xposed. Will this cause problems for me?

Turok1134

XVolume30 is convenient as hell since I fiddle around with the volume a lot when I listen to music.

Also, the Youtube Background Playback one is a must now that PVStar+ no longer works. It's very buggy, though.

godly967

Is the volume one any different from the more volume steps module? I had issues with sound with that one with viper installed

Turok1134

I wouldn't know. Sounds like the same concept, though.

turikk

Changing status bar icons. Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore.

WTB a way to disable stupid GPS icon and Sprint network notifications.

godly967

Try flat style bar indicators

LightOfValkyrie

GravityBox, Greenify, and YouTube AdAway are all I really need.

notdeadyet01

Xhangouts is pretty great

salutcemoi

I haven't rooted my S5, but when I had the S4 my favourite one was Youtube Adaway

PickUpLimes

Screen Filter - Perfect for going below 0 brightness, I use my phone a lot at night, and this conserves battery while integrating perfectly into the pull down.

Alternate App Picker - eliminates a step when I don't want to pick a default app

[deleted]

Notification Thicker on Lollipop, XGels, Greenify!

dewhashish

I used notification ticker, I got really sick of heads up

hurizz
  1. GravityBox
  2. Greenify (boost mode)
  3. Youtube Adaway thats my favorite modules..
BUILD_A_PC

YouTube Background Playback

Dutchgio

Gravitybox ofcourse. ;) Furthermore Greenify, Acdisplay, xposedSpotify and Snapchatfullcaption.

Force the tablet mode on my phone, so you can play every song without having to pay for the subscription. On your phone you can only play playlists otherwise. This mod fixes that.

Alebot

My favorite combination is Immerse Me and Gesture Navigation. Forces immersion mode on all apps, and gesture navigation makes it so you never have to leave it.

lehoo_zeher

Sorry it's late, but what gestures do you have set up???

Shadowdan

Does xposed work on non vanilla phones? I have a Sony z3 and want to use some modules but I keep reading that it works only on stock vanilla android. And using it on any other phone would cause instability. I tried to read up on specific subreddits to find answers but information is broken and incomplete. Could someone enlightenment me? Thanks

FayeBlooded

It does. I have a custom HTC One ROM and I have patched it up nicely with xposed modules. Just be careful and keep a backup of your phone in case something bricks it.

Nhialor

Not a direct answer but an unrelated questions - why is this tagged as meta? I never got the whole meta thing

skanadian

xposed additions - lets me long press power button to turn the torch on/off while the screen is off

bootmanager - stops apps from starting when the device starts
