Once I started patching, I haven’t gone back. Surprised more don’t do this…

Agreed!! I feel like this is the only way I’ll cook a chicken going forward. It was so damn easy too!

Yep, and generally a nice even cook so everything stays tender….

How long did you smoke it? Looks great!

Slimee [OP]

Whole thing only took an hour. Two zone Indirect heat method.

Awesome! I picked up a couple of whole chickens that I’m going to try this weekend. Thx for sharing.

I did my first chicken like this recently. Did you arrange coals to the sides, or just spread them out under the bird?

Slimee [OP]

Two zone. Used the Weber charcoal baskets and split the coals on each side and cooked the bird in the middle with a drip tray underneath. Added some water to the tray to keep it moister too

Brew-Drink-Repeat

I offset mine whether gas/smoke box or charcoal

That looks awesome! Spatchcock is the best. I usually inject the breasts, thighs, and legs with a beer and butter mix for some moisture. Don’t use an IPA, I was just messing with flavors. It comes out really hoppy/ bitter and my family didn’t like it one bit.

Snip the wingtips off next go, so they don't burn up.

Other than that, that looks like a beauty!

Getting my first little home in a couple months. This will be the first thing I bbq. Been over 10 years since I had a bbq. This looks darn good. Can’t wait!
