Xiaomi 4 Ultra vs. Segway G2: A Comparative Review

Max Speed In the US the winner is the G2 as it's just mathematically undisputed faster.

Acceleration: - G2 Version 1.11 and Below and above 1.4: With a full battery, the Segway G2 outperforms the Xiaomi 4 Ultra slightly. However, even at 70% battery, the Xiaomi remains competitive most likely due to its 48V vs. segways 36V. Unfortunately, during these versions, Segway compromised the fun factor in acceleration.

The Xiaomi also slightly accelerates above 25kmh to 26 sometimes and then comes back to 25. That's also what I had on the v1.4 of Segway but now it's gone.

  • Xiaomi 4 Ultra: The Xiaomi offers linear acceleration, which might feel lackluster. The S+ mode feels more like a basic D mode from the Segway, lacking excitement. It's as if Xiaomi doesn't want you to enjoy the ride at all costs. Their target audience might be 80+ old fucks suffering from arthritis and joint pain. Accelerating into a corner is the most boring thing u can do with the Xiaomi as you will not feel anything. Bypassing other bikes in the lane is also a struggle since u need a lot more time to reach max speed which In the end is dangerous.

Overall with the nerfed G2 Version the Xiaomi manages to win tho by a small margin. If I knew that there is no hope for a 1.11 update I might just side with the Xiaomi and call it a day. If suspension was on par with the G2 i would surely call it a day.

We also don't know if Segway in the end decided to fuck up all of its customers and just decides to also stay at a peak power of around 900w which is what I have now.

It's also worth mentioning that Xiaomi doesn't care about customers since other scooter brands Take advantage of local regulations while Xiaomi doesn't even answer to their customers and doesn't meet their demands. (Example in Germany u can have a max speed of 10% above tolerance)

There is no reason to believe that Xiaomi will improve something that a customer wants with some sort of software Update while Segway is at least aware that it plays a major role and is going for it. (V1.11 n2o mode)

It's also worth to mention that when going downhil Xiaomi is more lax on breaking. You can go faster than the G2 which will break harder to not allow you to go beyond the limit.

  • G2 Version 1.4 or 1.11: The Segway G2 is the clear winner, offering a fun driving experience. The Xiaomi 4 Ultra struggles to keep up. The G2 clearly fucks the ultra away and every ride is enjoyable. All of the other factors can be ignored, since this major point just overshadows all other points mentioned below. If it didn't have so many manufacturing issues you would be able to buy it blindly and ingore Xiaomi forever.

Note that Xiaomi could easily pump up the peak power to 1400W with their superior Motor, however they took the decision to make it only superior on paper and slightly when climbing hills as an obese person.

Note: In Germany, the G2D is limited to 900W, making the Xiaomi the winner in terms of acceleration in this specific case, but not by far.

LED Light: - The Xiaomi's LED is slightly brighter. Nobody should care tho. Both lights are good enough.

Steering Wheel Feel and General quality feeling: - The Segway G2 feels more premium and expensive in regards to the steering wheel, but the steering stem and the break lever of Xiaomi feels of higher quality with a higher mass and most likely is. Especially the break lever. The front wheel is also fully covered on the Xiaomi which Looks of higher quality and offers a better Visual Design. For some reason the tires also look wider. https://imgur.com/a/o0sup42

Brakes: - Xiaomi 4 Ultra takes the lead. The difference is noticable compared to the g2. I wouldn't dare to drive 35kmh on the G2, the Breaks are really not suited for that. However both have only cheap drum Breaks. Xiaomi started with 1000eur, that's basically unacceptable.

Motor Brake: - The Segway has a more effective motor brake, often eliminating the need for manual braking. In contrast, the Xiaomi’s motor brake is too weak, necessitating frequent use of the manual brake and jerky.

Suspension: - The G2 is the clear winner. It handles bumps smoothly, providing a comfortable ride. The Xiaomi's suspension is inadequate, making you feel every bump harshly even for lighter riders (80kg/176 pounds). When standing on it the range the suspension travel is non existent. Is anyone from Xiaomi even testing those things?

Accessories:

  • Horn: The horn on the G2 is overly aggressive and rarely used. It might be useful for scaring away wild beasts and wearwovles, but otherwise, it will be excessive ten out of ten times. The Xiaomi bell, on the other hand, is well-placed behind the brake and produces a smooth, loud double ring that people are accustomed to.

  • Turn Signals: The Segway G2 has better turn signal buttons that are addictive to press, but the plastic button can fall out if it scrapes against a wall. Fortunately, replacements are inexpensive. The Xiaomi’s turn blinkers are solidly built into the scooter, so this issue doesn't occur.

Xiaomi took the weird decision to carve their turn signals into a linear hole on the wheel. Additionally, if you hang a bag on the G2’s handlebars, it can accidentally press the buttons, which isn't a problem with the Xiaomi.

Some retailers tend to get their 4 Ultras imported from china since there is no restriction on that and u might get a Version without blinkers which is just funny. The wheel is smaller and it sucks to hold it. Turning into corners is even worse with a smaller wheel.

  • Acceleration Button and Handlebars: The G2's acceleration button is wider and has a smoother feeling. Price:
  • The Xiaomi was initially priced at €1000, which is steep considering it loses out in most aspects. It might have a better motor, but the limiting software diminishes its value. They fucked up hard on software and fun factor. The S+ Mode naming is extremely misleading. The Designer of that sport mode most likely was on LSD whilst inventing that name. There is no other logical explanation for that.

Bugs: - Xiaomi has no major reported bugs, while the G2 is plagued with issues like error 10 and charging port failures, rattling rear fender due to lose screws, Ghost breaking and more. Even tho 1.11 came out, they still delayed it and it's concerning that after such a long time they still couldn't fix many of the issues, which begs the question if it has to do with the manufacturing process itself and the parts they chose to build it with.

It's also worth mentioning that Segway has no issue selling a scooter that in the beginning gives u a fun experience, just to give u an "improved" software update which will make it unenjoyable. Support: - Both companies provide subpar customer support, typical of many Chinese brands. They literally suck but they lack competition. ( At least in Europe where most better scooters are not allowed on public roads)

Durability: - There are concerns about whether the Segway’s 1300W boost is sustainable or if it might fry the motor and cables over time. This is also due to the 36V and the cables that come with it.

Sharp Steering Ability: - The Xiaomi's design, with the wheel leaned backward, makes sharp turns less smooth compared to the G2. An inexperienced Driver might have his first freefall experience to the ground due to this design flaw.

App Utilities: - Segway’s app is superior, though this might not be a crucial factor for everyone and honesty this can just be ignored.

In conclusion, it’s puzzling why Xiaomi priced their scooter €200 more than the G2, given that it falls short on all key areas.

Design The wheels Look better on the Xiaomi No Matter how u take it. The steering stem as well, but for the rest it's personal preference. The blinkers are also better visible on the G2.

Charing Speed

The G2 Wins since you can buy a 5A charger that halves the time of charging.

This cannot be said enough. Last summer I rode several night a week just for the hell of it. Living the dream, exploring my neighborhood's bike tracks.

Then the patches hit.

  • Lost 2-3 km of range, which suprised me enough to force me to walk-of-shame for 1.5km pushing my dead scooter.
  • Climbing hills that I had no issues riding at 23km/h last year now feels downright silly, as low as 8-9 km/h; I'd laugh if I wasn't worried my motor would just give up on me.

These are serious fun hindering issues. I don't know if it was to prevent overheating (was never a problem for me in Canada) but my G2 feels seriously nerfed.

Worst of all is Segway's lack of communication. It's like they don't give a shit. We've been hearing about v1.11 for months now and it's still loaded enough with bugs for them to only test it out in China?

I'm seriously considering replacing my G2 with a Kaabo Mantis X Plus or Apollo City 2024 hoping the dual motor will carry my 150lbs up hills without agonizing. Waiting for patch v1.11 to make my final decision. If the torque boost helps with climbing without costing too much range I'll stick with it.

you should know that Xiaomi and Ninebot/Segway is in fact the same company.

Xiaomi bought Ninebot/Segway a few years ago and the first scooter they brought out after that was the original G30 Max, that's why the G30 basically looked like a beefed up version of the m365 und Ninebot scooters before that merge were basically shit (ES-series I'm looking at you!).

So while comparing these two scooters is legit, since they are completly different in some aspects while still having some similarities, comparing Xiaomi and Ninebot as a company makes no sense (i.e. saying that the one does care about what customers want and the other doesn't). They even run the same basic firmwares on both Xiaomi and Ninebot scooters...

Ballerfreund

Xiaomi scooters only where made by Ninebot until their 3 series, 4 series is made by another manufacturer.

At least the Ultra 4 is said to be based on the Navee S65.

They got bought. They are not the same and don't share the same organizational structure. It does make a difference.

Even tho they belong to Xiaomi it's different people working there even tho they might share Intel.

Got a US vertion of the G2, it can go to 35 without any problem in S mode. It also doesn't brake until 35km/h while going downhill and produce a sound when overspeeding (which I find very clever), it will start braking slowly when going above 35. So maybe it's just the EU verion that's lame (cause regulation)... but mine got no problem going over 25

malakish

In France the Xiaomi 4 Ultra was 400€ + 35€ shipping in May. And not a chinese version but a legit EU one. A very strong incentive to get it over a G2.

ZeroGAccelarator [OP]

At 400eur it's a no brainer. However it begs the question how they could sell it at that price. Are the margins that high?

Seeing it going for 400 for those who paid 1k is just sad.

malakish

Well I already saw the Navee S65 under 500€ on dhgate. Since they're almost the same scooter it must be a bit profitable.

WishTrick524

I paid $465 shipped for my Navee s65 and at the time amazon was selling for $959. What a ripoff and I bet they sold ZERO of them. Btw Navee s65 is quicker than both those scooters because of its geared engine. 40nm of torque neither the g2 or ultra 4 have that

Stardust-----

Ultra is much more reliable, from what I know. But G2 is much more fun, especially because there are CFWs for it. There's one basic CFW for Ultra, but it reaches only 29kmh and looses the speed with battery discharge

Honest_Whereas_9730

Man wish I had read your review about this, BCS as owner of Xiaomi 4ultra, what you wrote is 100% true, I love my 4ultra, battery acceleration etc, I have no problem with that but whenever it comes to suspension, YES YOU FEEL EVERY TINIEST THING ON IT, which also loosens and breaks scooter faster.
