Can someone explain to me why these professionals are still forced to play on turf? With the NWSL being one of the few American Leagues back, I’d assume they would be able to find a grass field for them to use. Is this an issue the players have raised or am I missing something?

Players have definitely spoken out about it, even before now. For the Challenge Cup, with so many games going on in a small window, I imagine they chose turf because there is essentially no maintenance (which means fewer people). On top of that, Herriman, UT is in the middle of nowhere (relatively speaking) so it's easy to isolate the players. I agree 100% that they should not have to play on turf, it's crazy that they have to fight for something like that. I'm just assuming that was part of the rationale behind playing the Challenge Cup there.
On a grass field with this volume of matches going on, I bet it would resemble center court at Wimbledon by the end of the tourney. My guess is that they are saving the potential wear and tear on Rio Tinto.
Lavelle and her very tall socks looking like the sensible choice for the cup.
Last nights game should add a ton to that list. Sliding all over the place.
They’re going to be worked overtime with Horan at this rate! 😳
