MI Logjam (good problem to have)

Having second thoughts on how I want to handle this, so I figured I'd run it by the better GMs out here.

At the moment, my current plan was to take my current SS and move him to 2B, because I have a rule 5 player from last season that went from good defense / shitty bat to INSANSE defense / below average bat. (I also have a new rule 5 guy from before the new SS increased from 40 contact - I was expecting the current SS to be a utility IF like he was in his rule 5)

However, I have a player that looks good in the minors (currently at AAA), that the best move may be to have the rookie play second, the old SS stay put, and last year's rule 5 guy be a late inning defensive replacement at short. I'm inclined to think I should let him play a full year at AAA instead of jumping to MLB from AA, though.

Checking if I'm overvaluing defense or under estimating the hole it would create in the lineup

Player Ratings below (From my scout - will post the numbers after starting thread to make it a little easier to read)

I would say play it out until the all star break w ur current plan and make moves depending on how it goes Move old ss to 2b Last years r5 as the new ss This years r5 utility Prospect in AAA

None of these players are really exceptional. Your current shortstop is by far the best

Keep the rookie in triple A in one more season, toss him in the dev lab for defense first and then power. Keep the guy with really good defense as a utility; his bat is far below average and your current SS is already a plus defender with a good bat. Keep the rule 5 as a utility as well; that way you have two really good MIs as your backups and you put the rookie at second base hopefully next season when he reaches his potential.

The other alternative would be moving your current SS to second and putting that really good defender as your SS, but then you'd have no space for your rookie when you call him up, and that really good defender sucks at offense tbh thats like a black hole for hitting. Your current SS will produce the same, if not better WAR than that good defender, so you can just toss him in as a utility.

All of these guys look fairly average—guessing their overalls are something like 50?

I really don’t like the “current rule 5 2b” that profile screams ground into double play machine. Maybe let the rookie cook a little longer to get that power up in AAA, then be ready to dump the previously mentioned 2b.

Yeah,

Old SS / Current 2B is 50 overall / 55 potential

Old Rule 5 / Current SS is 45/45

Current Rule 5 / rotational 2B is 45/45 - BUT he works surprisingly well as a hit and run option behind some of my speed (He is the ONLY guy on the roster I'll call a hit and run with)

AAA 2B is 45/75 - and there's ANOTHER guy I somehow missed!

Forgotten Minor Leaguer - 22, blew up during spring training apparently, because he wasn't this good in February - equally comfortable at 2B, 3B, SS (I'm saying profiles 3B - I'd be wasting a stellar turn DP, but he doesn't have quite the range for SS, and his arm's much too good for second)
