Just had a round where the rest of my team was on its last legs and wanted to extract before killing the Terminus that had spawned, and I wasn’t sure if that was actually possible.

As long as it's not a boss at the end of an Op I'm not sure you HAVE to kill anything. It just gets increasingly harder to survive the more enemies you leave alive.
I know with some Terminus spawns, it won’t let you progress to the next area until you eliminate it.
I'm not sure because I rarely get a spawn there that drags out but iirc you don't get the prompt to hit the button as long as Terminus is alive?
It'll promp, finally cleared hard stratagem lastnight. Last area had the neurothrope spawn. Some shenaningans later button was available.
Just takes awhile, feels like it's on a if waves clear prompt if not timer kinda deal.
That's good news then for any team that gets stalled by a Terminus there, I'll keep that in mind lol
The whole discretion is the better part of valor thing. You can skip quite a bit. Sniper's fun that way.

Yes 100%. In the section right before that, the section where you hop off the elevator and go down to the last section. You can bypass the terminus without having to kill it.
