Onbuhimo fit question

Hi all! I have a happy baby onbuhimo carrier. It only has a weight limit no height limit listed.

I have a 3 year old who is tall/skinny and under the weight limit but the carrier does not go very high on his back or all the way out to his knees. As we are walking much longer distances I want a way to carry him if he gets tired but don't really want to buy a whole toddler carrier if I don't have to.

He doesn't seem uncomfortable when I try it out and I certainly can't imagine him falling out of it any which way but am I missing something?

I have a similar fit on my toddlers back in our onbuhimo. I wasn’t worried about it until recently when he started fling himself backwards and move around weirdly sometimes. I think soon he absolutely could fall out. Because of this I’m looking into a preschooler one.

Personally? If he was cool with being in the small one and cooperative? I wouldn’t bother buying a bigger one. You probably won’t be wearing him all that much longer.

This is the usually the guide for carrier panel heights: https://ergonomic-baby-carriers.com/img/cms/BLOG/Baby%20Carrier%20Size%20Guide/Baby%20Carrier%20Size%20Guide%20%20Recommended%20Back%20panel%20hight.jpg

If it’s more than in a couple inches below his armpits I’d switch to something bigger. If it’s only covering his lower back he could theoretically fling himself off backwards.

The seat width at that age is more about comfort than anything else. Generally it’d be wise to size up when kiddo has less than half his thigh supported.
