Modern Cars With Their 1980s Faces

I love the bmw one
Obviously I'm partial, but that picture fills me with emotions which are weird and deeply confusing.
The 1980s face-swapped BMW is orders of magnitude better than the actual modern face.
The 330 isn't so bad. It's M340 and up that start to get gross lol

So is Jalopnik in general.
this article is probably the best thing jalopnik has put out in like five years and it's still throwaway
I didn’t know they still wrote about cars
“This is the biggest load of... article I have ever read!”
Just look at ALL that grill on the Blazer, and people complain about grills being too big today.
Somehow my gut tells me it would've worked better with the S-10 Blazer face.
Yeah, they should've used the K5 Blazer grille on the new Tahoe.

Back when headlights only came in "rectangle" or "round" and they all cost $9.95 each.
Yep. You could literally walk into any parts store and find a headlight housing for your car for super cheap. Hell, it wasn't even a housing. The bulb was sealed inside. It was a whole headlight assembly, IIRC.
They're now all very specific to the car and crazy expensive, especially the LED ones.
The Supra literally looks like a duck. Quack quack!!
The Civic isn’t even that bad looking. I dig it.
The biggest problem I see is one of scale - a modern Civic is bigger than an Accord was in the early '80s, and it was the other way around with the Blazer which went from being a full-size truck to a compact CUV.
Mid-size CUV (Equinox is now the compact), but yes.
Only the BMW look good in a modern style, the Mustang while lines up well it's look more like a Chevy Monza. And the rest don't line up and are just bad. This reminds me a lot of that old Car Throttle video that got a lot of blacklash because well, Notalgia does not equals good taste
Here's a good example of taking a old body and modernising it
I agree on the BMW being the only good looking one in the article. Just more argument towards BMWs timeless styling. But the Mustang, remember the Ford EXP? That’s what the Mustang reminds me of.
The mustang looks kinda sick
I'd unironically buy a Mustang with that front end. Not sure why that's the thing to click with but I love it.
These all look pretty horrible to me. You can't just take old front ends and slap them on curvy cars, does not flow very well. If you want an old BMW with that old look, go get one!
I miss sealed beam headlights.
I like them...they are straightforward and clear, not nuanced to death or hyper aggressive. A sundress is often more attractive than a hoochie outfit.
These are all better than I could have done, but they're also the kind of thing that makes me miss having Photoshop.

Oh fuck, I didn't even realize you can't just buy Photoshop once and own it permanently now.
(Because I'm a dirty pirate who has an old portable copy of CS6 from a friend still sitting in my hard drive after 7 years, and I haven't done anything meaningful with it; just translated manga and tried touching up one picture of my car for Instagram)

Lightroom is much better for touching up photos and photo bulk management. Photoshop is for actually creating something new by merging different photos together, removing or adding elements, pulling and pushing different parts of the image around. It's a digital art program that happens to be good for manipulating photos.
For a couple of lighting tweaks, messing around with curves, cloning out dust spots from film photos, and general photo processing Lightroom is far superior. You can bulk edit a whole photoshoot quite easily which is something Photoshop really struggles with. Photoshop needs a plugin to handle RAW photos which tells you something about what it was designed for.

That's so dumb. Software-as-a-service and games-as-a-service are two facets of the same exact thing: corporate greed.

I actually prefer leasing photoshop, much easier to manage across several accounts and machines.

Such a good idea for an article. Make sure to check out the comments (despite the mind-bendingly terrible comment system), the best ones are by the readers.

Shameless plug of my next-gen Dodge Viper rendering.

Worthy post. Nicely done. If I was looking for a new ride, that would draw me into the dealer. Not saying I'd buy it, but I would come and look.

The best ones always are, jalopnik writers think they are much funnier than they are

Photopea
Miss no more.
It’s basically a browser version of Photoshop. Just free.

They're not well made, I can see some errors with lining up.
Look at the Supra, follow the line from the front bumper and you will see it look tacked on, same goes to the Golf, the Civic, and the Blazer is just the worse, they probably could've just not did the Blazer and did something like the Silverado with a 1987-89 GMT-400 front end
